The original Galaxy Tab may well be getting an update to Android 2.3 Gingerbread extremely soon if Vodafone Australia’s Twitter account is to be believed. They’ve noted that they’re testing the Gingerbread update for the Samsung Galaxy S, G Tab 7″, HTC Desire Z, and Desire HD. Exciting on all counts!
What this sort of thing could very well mean is that the same update is coming to each of the phones listed above, but to their US counterparts soon. The only thing holding said phones and tablets back are what their carrier has done to them in the way of user interface modifications. Thusly – depending on what’s going on in your guts, your device is about to get a lot sweeter.
Will this make the original Galaxy Tab a contender once more? With all the tablets coming out with Android 3.0 Honeycomb on them, there’s going to be some real hard grinding going to be needing to be happening on the part of that little man, that’s for sure. Stay tuned, as Vodafone notes, to see the real action as it unfolds.

Samsung did not promise gingerbread update for galaxy tab 7″. Don’t be fool by them, why?
Because promise date already over. Worst then Apple.
I spoke to a Samsung rep a couple of weeks ago, they told me it was coming in mid May
