If you are an Android fan in Thailand, you will be able to get your hands on a new smartphone this month called the SPRiiiNG Smartphone. The device runs Android 2.1 and reminds me more than a little of that Peek communicator that has been around for a while visually.
The SPRiiiNG device has a QWERTY keyboard under the screen and navigation around the screen is via a trackball above the keyboard. The device weighs 110g, measures in at 96.4mm x 62.2mm x 12 mm, and uses a Qualcomm MSM7225 processor running at 528MHz. Internal ROM memory is 512MB and internal RAM is 256MB. The device also has a microSD card slot for expansion.
The screen is a 2.6-inch unit with a resolution of 320 x 240. On the back of the phone is a 3MP camera with LED flash. The device supports HSPA/WCDMA networks in the 900/2100 MHz range and GSM networks in the 850/900/1800/1900 MHz range. Other features include Bluetooth, WiFi, GPS, FM tuner, support for digital music, a light sensor, digital compass, and it has an accelerometer inside. Pricing is unknown at this time.
