SoundHound has been providing sound recognition and related technologies the past years and the company isn’t going on a break soon. In fact, it has recently introduced a new mobile voice interface app called Hound and the Houndify Developer Platform, a new developer platform for a “smart, voice-enabled, and conversational interface to anything”.
Hound is a new mobile app that allows users to just speak naturally to do different things on their phones like search, check the weather, make a call, send an SMS, navigating to a location, check flight status, or play interactive games. It’s a voice service that uses both natural language understanding and voice recognition to bring relevant results to the user. App is currently in private beta and is invite-only. This is different from other voice services that rely on word and phrase detection.
SoundHound’s voice technology is already reliable but further research and development over the years make searching for results more accurate and faster. App is unique in the sense a new technology is used (speech recognition + natural language). App can also handle complex, natural language sentences even exclusions, negations, and compound criteria according to SoundHound. All these and more allow Hound users to speak with more details and more naturally to get the most accurate results.

SoundHound also launched a new developer platform call Houndify. This new platform takes advantage of SoundHound’s very own Speech-to-Meaning technology. One objective is to bring Hound to more industries like retail, restaurants, medical devices, finance, entertainment, and automotive. Houndify is also for individual developers who build apps that can utilize voice search and voice recognition.
Houndify shows us the Internet of Things is about to take off. The idea is to bring connectivity to different devices and industries and provide a conversational interface to anything–one that is voice-enabled and is really smart. Platform is simple to use and can easily be integrated with the voice interface capability. The result is a product or a service is “Houndified”.
Mohajer had this to say about the Houndify platform:
“These technologies take years to develop, and are generally not available to new startups or even larger companies. By opening Houndify as a developer platform, we aim to empower developers of all levels to create and innovate, because they understand their offering better than anyone else.”
