More often than not, music lovers are not particularly happy or satisfied with their smartphone’s built-in music player since it’s either too simple, the UI isn’t user-friendly, etc. Good thing there are a lot of music apps to choose from out there, and one of the more popular ones, Shuttle Music Player, has come up with an update so that it will look good when Android 6.0 Marshmallow comes along to your device.

The developer has managed to find the right balance between simple and intuitive, and feature rich at the same time. Design-wise, it was able to truly apply Material Design without being so buggy when it comes to animations. And of course, one of the strongest points of the app was that it was one of the first apps to allow Chromecast-ing of locally stored music files, not just streaming services.

The update now brings support for Google’s latest update, Marshmallow. Even though it hasn’t yet reached non-Nexus devices, it’s still better to have all apps up and ready when it does come. The update has also overhauled several items like search, folder browsing, and sorting. The fast scroller of the app also now understands sort order, while Bluetooth is now another option for ‘resume on connect’.

You can update your Shuttle Music Player to the newest version, both the free and pro app. The developer is also looking for beta testers so if you’re interested to see and try out the new features in advance, just join the Shuttle Beta Testers Google+ community.

  1. stopped working under marshmallow… permission check failed! says screen overlay detected… then when you go to settings it shows the switch greyed out and won’t let you turn it on.

    • I had the same problem… I had a twilight app, and had to pause it to get Shuttle to change its permissions. I figure that an overlay program might mask what you’re agreeing to, and so Marshmallow doesn’t allow it. Exit, disable, or pause whatever overlay program is running, and Shuttle will work.
