Raise the roof, owners of the Samsung device that’s won several awards for most resembles the competition, it’s time for an update party. It’s the Samsung Fascinate and it’s time for a software update. This update happens later today at some point for everyone, supposing you’re lucky, maybe in a few days from now if the update doesn’t roll out to you as fast as your compatriots in the Samsung Fascinate owners club. The way you’ll be grabbing this update is to literally wait and click the OK button when you see it pop up on your device.

This update fixes two things, one of them so meta it’ll make your head spin. The first update is an improvement to call connectivity. This means that Samsung actually does intend for you to use this device as a phone – who knew? The second of two updates is in the form of improvements to the delivery of OTA (Over the Air) Software Updates. Hopefully you get this update so that you can improve how you get updates in the manner than you’ll be getting it. And what about if you don’t own the phone yet?

For a full review of the Samsung Fascinate, head over to our sister site SlashGear for the post from September 7th, 2010 by our main homie Vincent. If you do happen to purchase the device you’ll have this and more than likely a few more updates waiting for you right out of the box. ALSO note that this update goes by the name i500.ED04, so if you’re having trouble grabbing it, go ahead and search the internets for that. Good luck! — thanks for the tip, Chieui!

  1. I recieved this update today.. and now my phone’s battery is DEAD within two hours!!!! It uses battery power like crazy, even with the “mobile date” deactivated. It reset my entire phone basically so I lost all my home pages and have missing holes of forgetten shortcuts, so frustrating!
Plus, if you want to use any app involving the internet, you have to have ‘mobile data’ activated, which runs down your freaking battery like crazy!

Any way I can fix this? I’m super frustrated.

    Thanks!

    • This might be the worst update ever.  You’ll find yourself being navigated to the wrong screens. You’ll find that the vibration intensity will be reduced.  You’ll find that if you are connected to bluetooth and try to switch to speaker that your phone will automatically reconnect to bluetooth.  You’ll find that you can no longer use the side switch to tab down from the loudest call volume setting through vibrate and finally to silent….you now have to utilize a menu to silence your phone and then make a non-intuitive menu selection to determine when your phone should vibrate.  You’ll find that some fonts have changed.  You’ll find that the phone is slower to respond.  There is more but I hate to steal all the thunder.  Nothing would make me happier than to have Samsung retract this update and restore my phone to the excellent piece of equipment that it was.

      • Worse update ever, I agree, my battery is DEAD in 4-6 hours… I spent an hour with Verizon, they did not find any problems and told me nobody else complained… Anybody knows how to fix this?

    • I think it has something to do with the fact that a bunch of applications are starting automatically…I have the same problem!! Even with the advanced app killer thing my phone is dead within 2 hours. FB starts up without me opening it. So frustating!!!

  2. True battery runs out so fast I to get rid of some auto running programs…battery is super hot while it is charging & takes forever to get a full charge…i hope they fix this soon.

  3. the new update is so darn frustrating. I have had to return the the device and getting my third tomorrow. this should not need to be done. I love the phone but since the update a lot of features are broken or slow at using. we should be able to re download what we had before the update.

there has to be a way to switch it and get rid of the old update and go back to the one that was currently there.  i think they just handed out raw data without testing it all.

  4. Still hate this phone, will always hate this phone. Im on my 4th one. Garbage! As soon as my sentencevis up im seriously taking a hammer to it and probably leaving verizon for theirvpiss poor customer service & non-support tech service. This phone has left me frustrated, without a phone more than a few dozen times. Not worth it or the used crap they give me to alleviate the problem. Always a new one. Done

  5. this update killed my phone. I can no longer use swype, listen to music, watch movies, or even use auto capitalization

  6. Same crap here. Battery life sucks now, even worse if i forget to turn off wifi. I keep getting these annoying error meesages saying unable to update mail box and receive voicemail. Verizons solution to the problem was to send me a refurb model which does the same thing and sucks down the battery even worse. I loved this phone when i first got it, but it is trash now.
