Pre-orders are now available for the Samsung Chromebook 2, and they can be found direct with Samsung and also by way of Amazon. Samsung originally announced the Chromebook 2 back in early-March and there are two models available — an 11.6-inch model for $319.99 and a 13.3-inch model for $399.99.
Aside from the obvious difference in display size, there are quite a few similarities between these two models. They will both have 4GB of RAM, 16GB of SSD storage and a microSD card slot. Both also have a 720p HD webcam as well as HDMI, USB 3.0, USB 2.0 and a combination headphone out/microphone in port.
These both also have a Samsung Exynos 5 Octa Core processor, though the clock speeds will vary. The 11.6-inch model will be at 1.9GHz with the 13.3-inch model clocking in at 2.1GHz. Along with the difference in display size, there is also a difference in resolution. The 11.6-inch model is 1366 x 768 and the 13.3-inch model is Full HD at 1920 x 1080.
Samsung estimates the smaller model as being able to provide up to 8 hours of battery life, with the larger 13.3-inch model getting a extra half hour — at 8.5 hours. These both are sporting the faux-leather and stitching on the lid, however they will each be available in different colors. The smaller will be black or white, and the larger will be gray.
Officially speaking, Samsung has said the Chromebook 2 pre-orders will begin shipping in late-April. Amazon on the other hand, has offered a shipping date of April 28th.
