PlayStation is no longer just about playing games on a console or on a portable device. If you didn’t know it yet, you can actually purchase video content like movies and TV shows from the PlayStation Store. But of course, you could only watch those videos on your PS devices only. As of today though, Sony has announced a new mobile app, the PlayStation Video, that you can download on your Android devices so you can watch all these videos you bought on your smartphone or tablet wherever you are.
Think of this new app as a sort of video on demand service, but it will only show you the videos that you’ve purchased through the PlayStation Store of course. So actually, it’s more like just a video player. But not only can you watch stuff you’ve previously bought, but now you can also browse through all the videos they have in their library and then buy from there. This includes the first (and only, so far) original series from PlayStation, Powers.
There are also other series and movies available on the store, and most of them are produced or distributed by Sony of course. The movies are available either the day before or the same day as when the DVD is released. New movies available as of today include The Hateful Eight, Concussion, and Pointbreak. As for the TV series episodes, they will be available the day after it airs on their respective networks.
You can download PlayStation Video from the Google Play Store for free. However, some of the movie and TV shows may vary per region due to license and availability issues.
