In a world full of strange and bizarre games that you can play, probably one that is in the running for the strangest yet is the PC game called Hatoful Boyfriend. The gameplay is pretty straightforward for a sim type of game where you get to be part of a story, interact with other characters, solve puzzles, buy stuff, etc. Except that the story and characters here are all pigeons and you’re on the only human. Yes, we mean pigeons, the bird. Oh and yes, the game is now available on Android in all its strange, weird glory.
If you’re not familiar with the game, which actually has a sort of huge following in the PC games world, you will play the only human in a world of pigeons and other avian creatures. Due to some fluke, you have been accepted to the St. PigeoNation’s Institute, because apparently, you have been mistaken for a talented bird. And so you have to navigate your way in a world that’s just like other high schools, except that you’re surrounded by life-size birds. And you may even get romantically involved with one of them. Sounds like fun eh?
The game is more like a visual interactive novel meets dating sim but it also has “genre-bending intertwining narratives, hidden stories, surprise paramours” and a whole lot of other surreal surprises. Aside from the love story aspect, there are also conspiracies, mysteries, and unexpected twists as the story unfolds. Of course the story plays out depending on the choices you make, so think of it as a choose your own adventure type of story, but with pigeons. Lots of pigeons.
You can download Hatoful Boyfriend from the Google Play Store for $4.99. If you think that’s too expensive for an extremely bizarre game, then this one is probably not for you. But of course, you’ll miss out on all the pigeon-loving fun.
