Google may have scraped their supposed foodie photo app Tablescape for some reason or another, but that doesn’t mean they’re giving up on getting something running to satisfy the frustrated food stylist/photographer in all of us. They did promise us that some elements or influence of the closed experiment may make its way to some other future apps. Well, it’s not a future app, but it looks Google Maps is the one they’re integrating it with.
Google is reportedly testing out a new feature so that users can upload food-related photos on the Maps. This means, when you’re looking for a good restaurant in a certain area, you need not go to Foursquare or Google first but simply look at your Google Maps. Local guides who have “level 3 and above” powers on Maps have received a step-by-step guide on how to do this.
You simply take a photo inside a restaurant, bar, coffee shop, specifically focusing on actual food and drinks. You’ll then get a notification on your Android device, asking you if you’d like to upload your photo onto Google Maps. And if you say yes, you just need two taps and voila, photo seen publicly already.
Google hasn’t actually given a name yet to this new feature because it is still of course in the testing stages as of now. But really, we’re a bit excited to have access to this feature, especially for those who were really expecting Tablescape to become a thing, but then it suddenly was no more. Let’s see if something comes out of this one.
