Google Play Store worldwide downloads are now exceeding iOS App Store downloads by roughly 45 percent. But while downloads are higher in the Play Store, it seems the iOS App Store is generating more revenue. These details, amongst others, are coming by way of the latest App Annie Market Index report.
Details here point towards how the iOS App Store is “comfortably ahead” in terms of the worldwide revenue. It was said the iOS App Store is generating about 85 percent more revenue as compared to the Google Play Store. In terms of the Google Play Store, this report details how downloads from Russia and Brazil have been “on the rise for some time now.” There was also mention about how some of the recent growth has been from emerging markets. Two countries mentioned specifically regarding “strong influence” were Mexico and Turkey.
Games were said to be a “key category driving growth,” however there was also mention of growth within the Tools and Communication categories. Specifically, Tools were helped by anti-virus and security apps and Communication was helped by messaging apps. In fact, the report said messaging apps remained a “huge growth area” during this past quarter.
Otherwise, the top countries for Google Play Store downloads and revenue for Q1 2014 are as follows;
- Downloads — United States, Brazil, Russia, South Korea and India
- Revenue — Japan, United States, South Korea, Germany and the United Kingdom
