Chinese tech brand Elephone may not be the most popular OEM out there (and may even be mistaken as a new specie of elephant), but they are trying to change all that by releasing a sleek smartwatch that can reportedly compete with the more established brands. The ELE Watch will supposedly run on the Android Wear platform, and the early images leaked seem to indicate that it will go for the crowed that are looking for stylish yet connected wearables.
There isn’t much known about the specs of the ELE Watch though, except that, based on the picture, it will have a heart rate sensor built-in and placed at the back while the physical button is in the upper right corner. There are also reports that it will be available in 3 colors, but as to what those colors are, we haven’t heard anything yet, except one may be classic silver or gray, based on the leaked renders. There are some speculations saying it will run on MediaTek MT2601 SoC since it will be on Android Wear, but other speculated specs aren’t available.
We’ve seen a few smartwatches launched at the recently concluded IFA, including the Moto 360 2nd gen and the Samsung’s Gear S2. Chinese OEMs haven’t fully embraced smartwatches yet, so this may be a good move for Elephone to come into this market this early. Well, relatively early. Google is also reportedly returning to mainland China to be a Web services provider, so this is good timing for Elephone, if it is indeed true it will be on Android Wear.
No word yet as to when the ELE Watch by Elephant will be available in the market and how much this stylish piece of wearable will cost.
