Samsung is still helping to make VR tech and gear happen, and to some extent they’ve been succeeding this year. The latest event where Samsung and its virtual reality experience is taking center stage (well, there is a Samsung Main stage there after all) is the Lollapalooza festivities happening this weekend, July 28-31 in Chicago of course. This is actually the 25th anniversary of the music festival and so Samsung wanted it to be something special, so they’re hosting fun side events, bringing immersive VR experiences and of course, promoting their Gear 360 camera.
For the first time, Samsung is bringing VR-palooza, an “interactive and entertaining VR experience” which will let people who are actually at the festival have a deeper experience of the Samsung Stage using the Samsung Gear VR. They will get to have a 360-degree experience, including 4D VR surfing, skateboarding, and even hot air ballooning. If you’re at the festival and have a Samsung Galaxy device, you can go into the Galaxy Lounge and experience exclusive “VIP treatment”, including meet and greets and surprise appearances and performances.
Samsung Pay will also be pushed during the festival, and if you use the mobile payment gateway to pay for your purchases at the venue, you will get upgrades, perks, and the chance to win prizes including Samsung products. The Gear 360 camera will also be available for purchase during the entire weekend. You can get it for $349.99 and start enjoying taking 360 degree videos during the entire Lolla weekend.
If you won’t be able to go to Chicago for Lollapalooza, you can sort of experience some of the Lolla magic if you’re in New York at the Samsung 837 venue this July 26. There will be a live performance from Years & Years, plus Chicago-themed treats and 25 years of musical history, all happening in one night. There will also be streams of performances that guests can experience through the Gear VR.
