With the amount of news and information (and not all of them real) that is available out there, it’s getting more and more important to have curated news from trusted sources brought to our attention. They are not just competing with other less informative and more entertaining social media activities but also with all the fake news and propaganda being thrown at us. Microsoft is now doing its part in bringing a more trust-worthy and diverse news experience by re-launching, redesigning, and re-naming its news service into Microsoft News.

Formerly known as MSN News, the app has now been redesigned so it will be easier for you to get the news that you’re interested in and that you need to know. You will be able to tailor fit the app to your personal preferences. It also has options for local news in major cities, if you prefer knowing more about the place you live in or you’re going to. The breaking news alerts is also easier to configure so you receive notifications when needed. You will also be able to read continuously instead of just jumping from one section to another. Plus, as with a lot of apps now, you will be able to use a dark theme so you can read easier at night. And of course, your news experience will be seamless across devices and platforms.

What’s interesting also with this re-launch is that Microsoft is putting emphasis on “a free, well-funded press” and sharing that they are partnering with more than 3,000 publications and brands in major global markets. This includes USA Today, The New York Times, FOX News, The Washington Post, The Guardian, Le Monde, Die Welt, El País, BBC News, Kyodo News, etc. They also shared the curation process which is a combination of AI and human editors, with emphasis on diversity in both their newsroom and the publications they partner with.

Microsoft News is now ready to download for free from the Google Play Store. For those who will use it, let us know how it compares to other news aggregation apps like Google News, Flipboard, etc.
