One of the things that we’ve loved about Google Photos, which they eventually removed, is now making a comeback in the latest update. People have spotted that the ability to rotate videos on the photo cloud app can now be used again in version 1.25. This is just part of Google’s habit of removing and then bringing back specific features, or you can look at it as experimenting with what works for people or what their users really find necessary or useful (or useless, on the other hand).

Rotating still images is pretty much standard for most photo apps and even your device’s built-in photo editor. But not everyone has the ability to rotate their videos at 90 degree intervals, just like you would a photo. That’s why when Google Photos had this feature, we were pretty pleased. There are some videos that you take at certain angles that you’d like to rotate, for one reason or another. So we were baffled when it was suddenly gone. But at least now we have it back.

The only difference and problem with this “new” feature is that it is only accessible on a video in your camera folder. So this means you can’t edit or rotate a video that has been uploaded or downloaded. So make sure that you’ve already edited the footage before you upload it to Google Photos and then delete the original copy. It may be a hassle, but it’s still better than nothing. And they may add improvements later on who knows.

There seems to be no announcement yet as to the changelog for Google Photos version 1.25. Or it may also be a side-server pitch. Try and see if you already have rotate video back and let us know.
