Have you always wanted to have your own podcast or radio program but a) you don’t have the time and resources to do a full-blown one and b) you probably have shorter material that would not require an actual podcast. Well now you’ll have the chance to do that with Anchor, a new Android app that lets you record mini-podcasts and send them out to the whole world to hear. The app also lets you listen to other podcasts and respond to people through a voice message.

You don’t need to have sophisticated recording equipment to be able to create your material. All you have to do is download the app, hold the phone to your ear like you were taking a call, press the red button and hold until you finish recording. Once you’re done, you’ll be able to send it to the whole Anchor community and share it on your Twitter feed as well. Anyone can respond to your recording through a voice message, and you can answer back as well, therefore creating a conversation through the app.

You will also be able to listen to other podcasts/audio recordings from people from around the world. They are arranged into categories and you can also browse through hashtags. You can also embed the recordings on your blog or website and share any of the clips through various social media.

The Next Web calls it “a spoken-word version of Instagram” and if this catches on, it will surely be an interesting way of expressing oneself and having (hopefully civil) conversations with people from various places. You can download Anchor from the Google Play Store for free.
