Back when computers were still a new thing, students who were just learning to use it had to practice typing, just like generations before them had to practice using the typewriter by typing “the quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog” or something equivalent to that. But of course typing exercises aren’t that fun, and so they had to invent some typing games to make it more interesting for students. Now we have the mobile (and also desktop version) equivalent of these games, and one of them is ZType.

The concept and gameplay is pretty easy, at least on paper. You have to type out the words that appear beside enemy ships to blow them up, but you have to do it without having to hit the backspace key. If you do make a mistake and hit it, then the level will blow up. You can only do that at three different times in a game, otherwise, you have to start all over again.

As with a lot of good games out there, it becomes more difficult as the game progresses. The words get harder, the ships get bigger, and probably, your thumbs will get clumsier. But you’ll have a little help as the bigger ships will take out the smaller ships around them when it blows up, if you complete the words without making a mistake.

It sounds pretty easy and straightforward when you read it, but of course, it’s not as easy as it will be in real life. But it does get fun and addictive, so if you want to both improve your typing skills and not get bored at the same time, you can download ZType from the Google Play Store for free. You can also play it on your laptop or desktop as a browser-based game.
