Our friends in the UK will gain access to another budget smartphone option on September 4 when Virgin Media begins offering the ZTE Blade V. Though this handset is on the lower end of mid-range devices, buyers will be able to grab it for less than a bill, with both on-contract and off options available.

The handset offers a 1.2GHz Qualcomm 8225Q quad-core Cortex A5 processor, with graphics coming by way of an Adreno 203 GPU. There’s 1GB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage space. The display, meanwhile, is a 4-inch IPS panel with a resolution of 800 x 480. There are both front and rear cameras, with the one around back have a 5-megapixel sensor and flash.

The battery has a capacity of 1720mAh, though there’s no mention of how long a life span users can expect from that. Software is Android 4.1.2, and connectivity is the standard WiFi, Bluetooth, and GPS. As we mentioned, the handset is certainly not anything to write home about, but for the price it is a solid — perhaps easily disposable — budget offering.

Those interested will be able to grab the ZTE Blade V for down to £13 monthly for a contract option, or for £89.99 for pay-as-you-go customers. Buyers who already have Virgin Media broadband, television, or a phone contract can get it for £71.99 instead, a drop of 20-percent. A purchase requires buying a minimum of £10 in top-up as well.
