Xiaomi is bringing out what will most likely be another hot seller. This time, however, it’s not a mobile device but a smart TV, but one that is not really like most 4K TVs you might already know.
Yes, the Mi TV 2 boasts of a 4K display resolution. That’s 3840×2160 pixels spread over a span of 49 inches. The display panel itself is made by LG, so there’s somewhat an expectation of quality here. Deep inside, though, you will be met by a 1.45 GHz quad-core processor made by MStar, not exactly a name you’d be familiar with in the mobile industry. It does come with a Mali450-MP4 GPU for graphics processing and 2 GB of RAM for smooth running of software. Still on the hardware side, you’ve got staples of Internet-connected TVs, like WiFi and Bluetooth, version 4.0 with its Low Energy feature, to be exact.
Xiaomi is putting some spins on this smart TV to make it stand out from the rest. For one, you won’t just be getting the TV, but will also be receiving a soundbar, a subwoofer and a bluetooth game controller all in one purchase. But perhaps more amusing is the fact that Xiaomi is almost treating this like a smartphone, as the TV and the speakers actually come in a variety of color options. While most TVs come in sleek black, gray, or metallic tones, the Mi TV 2 has options for pink, red, green, aqua, and more.
But the biggest surprise that Xiaomi had is the price. The Mi TV 2 will sell for 3,999 CNY. That’s roughly $640 converted, about the full retail price of a high end smartphone. And like a smartphone, it does run Android. Not the Google-certified kind, of course, but you’ll be hard pressed not to find ways to get your favorite apps on it. The bad news is that Xiaomi has not yet given any indication that the Mi TV 2 will be heading anywhere this side of the globe, so we can only hope that it will be part of the Chinese company’s international expansion.
