Encryption is still the word of the moment as the debate is ongoing on whether or not OEMs and brands should provide backdoor access to apps and devices if the government deems it a necessary evil. Meanwhile, WhatsApp has earned a lot of brownie points wth consumers as they announced that the entire app now has full end-to-end encryption that will render your messages, calls, and all files you exchange with anyone through the app, just yours and yours alone.

From now on, well, if you update to the latest version of the messaging app, all your communications within the app is fully encrypted. Basically this means that the only people who will be able to read (and listen to) what you exchange with your family, friends, colleagues, and whoever else you talk to on the app, will be you and the receiver/receivers or senders. Even if somebody hacks into the servers, they still won’t be able to read anything because everything is, all together now, encrypted.

Even WhatsApp itself does not have access to all these messages, pictures, videos, files, voice messages, whether it’s a one-on-one conversation or a group chat. So even if the government approaches WhatsApp and tells them to reveal the conversation between people suspected of wrongdoing or something, they still won’t be able to decrypt the communication.

Several OEMs and app developers have also said they’re working on encrypting their communications as well. But WhatsApp may probably be one of the first to offer full end-to-end encryption. So update your app to the latest version and enjoy what is now probably one of the most secure ways of communicating digitally.
