Volvo On Call app in an Android Wear watch

Volvo is not a stranger to digital dashboards and infotainment systems. The Volvo On Call smart app has been updated recently to allow connectivity with Android Wear and the Apple Watch. This means supported Volvo car drivers can lock/unlock the vehicle, control settings, locate, and utilize other Volvo services available.

The Volvo On Call app allows you to take control of the car from setting heater timings to checking fuel level and mileage. If you’re the type who always forgets where he parked his car, the app may be helpful especiall in a crowding parking area.

The Volvo On Call app offers wearable connectivity for Android Wear-powered smartwatches. It can also work with the Apple Watch and Windows Phone with a unified app with voice control through Cortana. ‘Send-to-car’ capabilities were also added for more efficient navigation purposes.

The Volvo On Call app even got a new design based on the Sensus driver interface as seen in the new Volvo XC90. Volvo On Call has been used by Volvo for more than a decade. Since its launch in 2001, the app then became the first car-based telematics according to the car maker. It has been offering security, safety, and tracking services to many drivers while still providing the original safety functions. Some services include direct contact with a Volvo On Call operator and deploying airbags.

The app’s popularity and importance have increased the past years because of the many new and convenient features like remote locking, find my car, and fuel level indicators among others. Volvo On Call now has an average of 230,000 active subscribers from 21 markets all over the world. App is even the standard in some countries like Canada, United Status, and Brazil while it is considered a good alternative in China and Sweden.
