If you have a desktop at work but travel often, you sometimes would need to remotely access your files for one reason or another. Good thing there are apps out there that use Virtual Network Computing (VNC) to enable you to do so. Their official remote access app is the VNC Viewer, and now the latest update to the app brings support for mice (the plural of mouse, not the animal) and trackpad that are Bluetooth connected as well as horizontal scrolling, in case you work on spreadsheets and databases a lot.

You could already use those peripheral accessories with the app before, but now the app will actually directly control the cursor of your remote machine instead of just emulating the touches. It can work with both the wired accessories and the wireless, Bluetooth-connected ones. While most of us are used to swiping and scrolling on the screens, it’s still nice to have that option if ever you need to use a mouse or trackpad.

Horizontal scrolling is also not that useful for a lot of people because of adaptive web formatting but the VNC Viewer app is still adding the feature to its update. This is for those who are working with spreadsheets and databases, since that’s practically the only time when you would need to scroll from left to right and vice versa. To activate it, just put two fingers on the screen and then swipe horizontally as needed. However, it might not work with open source 3rd party VNC server clients.

You can update your VNC Viewer already to enjoy these improvements. And if you don’t have it yet but need to access your desktop remotely every once in a while, download it for free from the Google Play Store.
