With tablets that provide both Android and Windows operating systems slowly starting to crop up, it was only a matter of time before cheaper alternative also appear. ViewSonic, who is probably either popular or notorious for such affordable devices, has just launched what is actually its second dual-booting tablet, this time powered by an Intel Celeron N2910.
The Celeron in the processor’s name might bring back memories of Intel’s youth. But make no mistake, this is a current gen chip from Intel’s newly launched Bay Trail line. Thus it gives users a quad-core CPU running at 1.6 GHz. Add 2 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage and you have a somewhat decent portable computer.
The rest of the specs, however, might not impress. Especially the 10.1-inch display that has a 1280×800 pixel resolution. You do have a large 7000 mAh battery that, depending on your usage, is advertised to last 6 hours. You only have 2 megapixel cameras, both at the back and in front, but the front one is probably more important for this tablet. WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, micro USB, HDMI, and a microSD slot just about rounds up the hardware features. The selling point, of course, is that it comes with both Windows 8 and Android 4.2.
There are, of course, other options in the market that have dual boot options, and even has a keyboard available, like the ASUS Transformer Book Duet. Very few, however, match that up with a low price. The ViewSonic ViewPad 10i has a starting price of around $500 but is so far only available from online retailers.
