We first mentioned the new ViewPad 10e back in October but since then it hasn’t really seen any attention. This follow up to the original ViewPad 10 is geared for the entry level crowd — hence the e in the title but the price doesn’t look to budget friendly. Viewsonic isn’t one of the major players in Android and with this new tablet, that wont be changing. The ViewPad 10e had recently been spotted on Amazon for an outrageous asking price of $399.

Although the specs are quite decent and include a 9.7″ 1026 x 768 IPS display we only have a single-core 1.0 GHz processor and 512MB of RAM and 4GB of storage. Viewsonic has also outfitted this tablet with micro-USB, micro-SD, and an HDMI port for all of your needs — but the price is a bit too high. What makes this even worse, especially for the price, is Viewsonic is launching this with Android 2.3 Gingerbread — no Honeycomb or better yet Ice Cream Sandwich.

With new tablets coming to market such as the quad-core ASUS Transformer Prime for only a little extra, or the super cheap ASUS 7″ MeMO rocking a quad-core and Ice Cream Sandwich for $249 this tablet really doesn’t stand a chance. For now this is only a pre-order price listed by Amazon but they are usually pretty close when it comes to pricing. If Viewsonic plans to sell this single-core outdated device for a premium they wont be getting too far.

Who’s interested in this tablet? If it makes you feel any better J&R has a pre-order for $299 right here.

  1. Interesting screen size tho, as 4:3 is a better fit for PDFs than 16:9.

Still, i think Archos 80g9 may be just as good in that regard (the smaller screen surface not withstanding).
