Verizon released the Moto G back on January 9th. And while the handset arrived as a solid pre-paid option for Big Red customers, there was a slight bit of disappointment from some as it shipped with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. Verizon did say the Kit Kat update would come in the “near future” however a specific timeline remained a mystery. But in a bit of good news, user reports are beginning to detail the Android 4.4.2 rollout.

Simply put, if you picked up a Verizon Moto G — you may want to be on the lookout for an update notification. One aspect to remember is about how these updates roll out over time. When looking for the notification or checking manually, keep in mind the update may not be ready for your specific device just yet.

At this point those carrying a Verizon Moto G can sit back with some patience and wait for the update, or take the proactive approach and go looking. Those choosing the latter approach should grab their handset and navigate into the settings. Specifically, navigate to Settings -> About phone -> System updates to try and get the process started.

In terms of the update, this means users will be seeing the new Phone dialer with easier contact lookups, new image editing options in the Gallery, better support for printing and the v2.0 release of Hangouts — which as we have seen, allows users to have incoming SMS/MMS messages handled using Hangouts.

While the Verizon Moto X is already running Kit Kat, it is interesting to see the Moto G go one-step up. The Moto X is currently running Android 4.4, while this Moto G update took things directly from 4.3 to 4.4.2. That being said, if we have any Verizon Moto G users — make sure to let us know if you’ve received the update. Or perhaps more important, whether or not you are having any issues after the update has been installed.
