Samsung Galaxy S5 pre-orders have arrived with Verizon Wireless. The carrier opened the pre-orders this morning, and perhaps more important for some — this means the pricing and availability date has been confirmed. The handset will begin shipping on April 11th, and it sits priced at $199.99 on a new two-year agreement.

We should also clarify how that $199.99 price point comes after a $50 mail-in rebate. Otherwise, those looking to avoid the rebate and the lengthy contract have the option to go full retail, which in this case is $599.99. Similar to how Verizon launched the HTC One (M8), they also have the Galaxy S5 sitting with a buy one get one offer. Those opting to go the BOGO route will be able to grab a second Galaxy S5 for free. Or alternatively, getting an HTC One (M8) is also an option. Naturally, a two-year agreement will be required for each of those devices.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 feature set includes a 5.1-inch Full HD display, 16GB of internal storage, a microSD memory card slot, 2800 mAh battery, 2MP front-facing camera and 16MP rear-facing camera. The handset is running Android 4.4 Kit Kat and sporting other features to include an IP67 rating for water-resistance, a built-in heart rate sensor and integration with the Samsung S Health setup.

We spent a bit of time with the Galaxy S5 during Mobile World Congress, which did includes some hands-on time. We also took a look at the specs for both the HTC One (M8) and Samsung Galaxy S5 — just in case anyone has been trying to decide which way to go. And nicely, Samsung had also confirmed the “Galaxy Gifts Package” for those who are looking for some extra goodies to push them over towards a purchase.

  1. Looks like you can’t simply buy the S5 off contract and keep your unlimited data plan. It is saying that my current 4G LTE (Galaxy Nexus) unlimited data package is not compatible with the S5 and that I must change plans in order to purchase this phone. Bastards!!!!

    • Does anyone know if you can buy the $750 Verizon Wireless S5 replacement phone on Best Buy and then keep your unlimited plan?
