It appears to finally be coming. The folks from Verizon seem to actually be ready to push the latest and greatest mobile OS of all times to a few of their flagship phones. After months of waiting, multiple leaks, missed dates and more Verizon and Motorola are ready to update the DROID RAZR and RAZR MAXX to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. More details below.

After the ICS update was “confirmed” to be arriving June 12th from a few supposedly reliable sources and never came, users were extremely upset. Either they barely missed that date or are now giving users an update to calm the minds of the millions who own the device because today Verizon started sending text messages out to all DROID RAZR and MAXX owners confirming the update to ICS was coming soon. Hurray!

Free Verizon Message: Your phone will soon be upgraded to Android 4.0. At that time we will remove your Verizon Wireless Mobile IM app because it is not supported on Android 4.0. Please download a new instant messaging app to use IM on your phone. Thank you for using Mobile IM!

Received Today June 15 at 12:02

The message above has been arriving on DROID RAZR and MAXX handsets all afternoon according to multiple tips we’ve received today. Our inbox and comments are flooded with them so it’s safe to say this update is finally coming soon. Verizon has yet to announce a date, but as soon as we see the update documents arrive on their support pages we’ll report back and let you all know when to expect the update. For more details on what ICS will bring for the RAZR hit the links of the leaks below.

  1. They are not trying to calm us down. Motorola probably got on their behinds to hurry up cause iOS6 or whatever number that is might launch sooner than their android 4. It’s not always the manufacturer…it’s the carrier.

  2. They said “soon” because “probably sometime before the next ice age, give or take a few millennia” would have put them over the character limit.

  3. I called Verizon they said it was released today but motorola is only doing groups at a time.. So I guess we wait to see woo the lucky ones are..

    • Well. If it was indeed released today and not to be released today I am sure there would have been a couple of “lucky ones” screaming on forums that they got it ahead of everyone else. I know I would lol.

      • I don’t know if I agree with that theory. If I had received the ICS upgrade, I wouldn’t be searching for forums that tell me when I’m going to get it. I would be content and not on these sites anymore.

  4. No text here. But more importantly – why stop with Verizon IM. Remove all the bloatware that no one uses anyway. Or at least allow users to remove if they do not use.

  5. The only text I got from Verizon was about the animated messaging
…was totally different than what’s stated in this article

  6. No text here but by the looks of the one above that would be what they sent to users of the mobile IM app and that’s not me.

  7. i did not get a txt, but i got the update 30 minutes after reading about it, i just checked my phone every 5 minutes for the update. Its android 4.0.4, -Miami, FL

  8. Overall do you think ICS will slow down the Razr or smooth things out?

I just know new software releases tend to slow things down so you have to upgrade the hardware!

Leaked version have appeared and have given thumbs up on speed…But will patches in the future give us the Shaft?

  9. No text yet, but the slow rolling nature of these texts makes me wonder if it might be a test of Verizon’s systems readiness to handle the ICS update ?

  10. I keep seeing this same story but no one seems to know or have received a text or tweet from anyone who’s actually received this alleged text message. It has the feel of another rumor like the June 12th thing that got started and had no basis in fact. I guess well see. I hope I’m wrong.

      • i got a text..i live in north dakota…got it about 3 days ago..mb friday..idk i forgot when..but theres a site saying that verizon tweeted that it was all spam or in other words..a lie..idk tho..i did got the message..just that..now i keep updating constantly but idk yet whats going on!…just forcing me to root so i CAN get it finally!!

  12. I talked to a service representative at a Verizon store late last week and they said the update was going to start on the 16th…I don’t have it yet though.

  13. Nope the only text I have from Verizon is that my monthly statement is ready…..
as for ICS I will believe it when my Razr restarts after the download…anything else is Motorola lies and Verizon propaganda…..

  14. Okay. Today verizon announced Thats they did not send any text messages about android version 4. A few of us Received text messages like that. Verizon said It is a hoax. If it is a hoax how come only android users on razrs received them and not users of different phones too? Are Verizon departments not aware about the actions of other internal departments? What the hell? I am getting tired of these guys. And no. I am not waiting for ICS just cause it is “shiny new” but I am hoping for some fixes to some issues I have with my 4G connection. If the txts were hoaxes they were very elaborate ones.
    What do u guys think?

  15. Bought a Razr because it would be upgraded by the second quarter. It’s the last
day and still no update. Motorola is going to lose customers over this. You
cannot lie to customers and expect them to stay loyal. I want my money back so
I can get a phone from a more reputable company. I’m calling Motorola. When I don’t meet my deadline, I’m on the hook and so is Motorola in this case.

  16. My wife got it just the other day, it rocks and this is no bs, i.but she did im mad i didn’t get it her update started at 7 am and it is smooth, very interested in getting it on my phone

  17. I’m so unhappy with the update on my droid razr! I’m having conflicts with the draw something application, my photo’s aren’t uploading to my photobucket album, and the sound controls are screwy and not working right! Can I uninstall the update? I will hate to have to go to the verizon store :/
