Toshiba’s Froyo update for the AC100 smartbook has been released, bringing Android 2.2 along with Flash Player 10.1 support to the Tegra 2 based ultraportable. Spotted by owner Steve Paine (of Carrypad fame), the 202MB update was pushed out this morning via Toshiba’s official software upgrade tool.

It replaces the Android 2.1 Eclair OS the AC100 launched with back in the second half of 2010, and will hopefully add up to a new turn of speed for the 10-inch ultraportable. Without a touchscreen, many of the original complaints about the AC100 will still stand, but at least it shows that Toshiba hasn’t forgotten completely about the device.

  1. I sure hope it’s true. Can’t wait to come hope and try it. EVERYTHING Toshiba has neglected will be forgiven if it truly works.

  2. Yes looks good now. Can directly plug USB into the MacBook and develop apps towards the Android SDK and Eclipse, no extra hacking needed. Battery life seems ok. I have been tinkering with it all day and still power left. Had some issue with the Toshiba Media Player hanging on video load but clearing its data in the Application settings reset things back to normal. This is a MID with limited performance so it is not capable of HD video play back off YouTube. Likely the combined effort of Wifi streaming and Flash playback becomes too much for this design so they are taking measures to make sure the default playback modes avoid HD content to not reveal the low frame rates in that case. But again if you are after true HQ Youtube just shell out for a Macbook Pro.
