The British newspaper known as The Times is trying to bolster its digital presence by offering discounted Nexus 7 tablet with subscriptions. For only £50 and a £4 a week subscription, users can grab a 32GB Nexus 7 tablet. Normally, the 32GB version of the Nexus 7 sells for £199.

If you are already interested in signing up for The Times, this is a definitely the way to do it. You can grab an 18 month subscription and the tablet for £299, which is £212 below the normal cost of the two together. While it might cost more than just buying the tablet outright, you get a newspaper subscription and a tablet for £100 more than just the tablet.

The subscription to The Times is the digital bundle, which gets you access to the tablet edition of the newspaper, as well as access to the website and smartphone app. With The Times+ membership, users also get wealth of events, offers and extras including complimentary film screenings, private views and expert talks. It’s an interesting deal, and seems like a good move for The Times to get more readers using its digital platform.

Of course, the Nexus 7 is one of the most popular tablets on the market. It comes with the latest version of Jelly Bean, 10 hour battery life while browsing, and more general awesomeness. Hopefully, we see other companies working out plans like this, where users can grab a service they need with a discounted tablet. Unlike phones, subsidized tablets are not overly common.
