Telltale Games have been on a roll – they keep hitting it out of the park with the games they have produced. And what’s more, they seem to have solidified their grip on a storytelling-slash-gameplay style that no one has dared compete with them on. Tales from the Borderlands is the most recent one that they have produced to critical acclaim. They already have a lot of games under their belt. Something tells us that a Dark Knight series will do very well under Telltale’s style of storytelling.

The team working on the Batman series took to the stage at SXSW and revealed a few details to keep the hype for this new game series going. Development has been ongoing for a year now, but the team says that this is mostly on the script and the main storyline. This is what separates Telltale Games from the others – the storyline is always engaging, always solid, and it looks like they spent a whole lot of time making sure they have strong stories to tell about Gotham’s Dark Knight.

The team says that fans can expect a “fresh interpretation of the universe set in current times”. This means that the stories here will not be tied to any existing iteration of Batman in games, film, or comics. The storyline will focus on Bruce Wayne and Batman, and so there will be very little of the extended “Bat-family” (Robin, Nightwing, etc.) But the staples will be there – how can Bruce Wayne survive without Alfred Pennyworth and James Gordon?

As for villains, Telltale is keeping that information tightly under wraps for now, but expect a few announcements as the game launch date nears. Incidentally, the game will launch summer of this year, so we may not have to wait for long to see what Telltale Games has for us on the Batman.
