Little-known phone maker BungBungame is planning something really big — literally and figuratively. The Taiwanese manufacturer wants to build a top-end handheld for the low, low price of $299. Of course, they’re also looking to crowd fund the effort, and want to raise $5 million before building the device.

The small price is a big deal, but so is the device itself. With a nearly 6-inch screen, the Project S hardware is a great deal larger than most other offerings. The rest of the device specs are also pretty impressive:

  • 3GB of RAM
  • 32GB of storage
  • microSD card slot
  • Octa-core processor
  • 16MP rear, 2MP front cameras
  • WiFi
  • Bluetooth
  • NFC
  • DLNA
  • Miracast
  • IR sensor
  • GPS
  • Wireless charging
  • Dust and Water proof case
  • 5.8 inch, 2560 x 1440 display

For $299, that’s not a bad deal. For what is being asked of consumers ahead of time, it’s suspect. Canonical raised nearly $13 million for the Ubuntu phone, but they had a lot of steam behind them going into the project. While we what’s on paper, we have quite a few issues with this one.

First, we have no idea who BungBungame is. We don’t know which processor is on the device, or which version of Android it will have. We also don’t know what type of screen it is. Their website currently shows only two devices, both tablets — one Windows, one Android. The site also hasn’t been updated for the Android tablet, and notes that Android 4.1 is the “latest version” of Android, indicating their support of devices is lacking. The project, while ambitious, essentially asks us to crowdfund a miracle device from a manufacture we’ve never heard of at a time when those specs are right around the corner from established OEMs.
