Sony has released a new flash tool for its Xperia devices. This tool will only work for Xperia devices with an unlocked boot loader. The purpose of the tool is to take devices that have a custom firmware installed and moving it back to official Sony software. Sony is calling this new software a beta, so that means it's not 100% finished.

Xperia S has some pretty impressive specs when it launched earlier this year but sadly still came with Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Sony did add a few ICS-like features with folders and such but it isn't quite the same. We have good news today because over at the Sony forums we're hearing the update to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is coming soon.
Xperiablog got their hands on a promo video highlighting key new features of the Sony user interface that shows off a some beautiful new widgets, and even calls the UI "UXP NXT".
Sony has dropped the "Ericsson" and outed a pair of highly-desirable smartphones at CES 2012 this week, the LTE-toting Xperia ion for AT&T's 4G network, and its Euro sibling, the HSPA+ Xperia S. Both have a squared-off aesthetic and a 4.3-inch 1280 x 720 HD display, running Gingerbread on a 1.5GHz dual-core processor with an ICS upgrade tipped for Q2.
