LG gives Windows Phone the boot and goes all Android
Did you know that LG makes Windows Phone 7 devices? Yeah, we didn't either. LG has been a respectable runner in the Android world for the last couple of years, but apparently their performance on Windows Phone 7 - or perhaps just the platform's performance as a whole - hasn't been very inspiring. Today the company announced that it's giving up Microsoft's platform in favor of Android for all its forthcoming smartphones. Now if only Nokia could follow suit.

European carriers say Nokia should go Android
If you've been following smartphone news from some non-Android sources, you probably know that Nokia's Lumia 900 has made quite the splash over on AT&T. But apparently it's not doing so hot across the pond: reports out of European cell carriers say that their retail staff can't make a case for other Lumia phones like the 710 and the 800. Why? It's the software, of course - Nokia's gone full Windows Phone 7 with their smartphone line, something that's a hard sell for European customers expecting Android.

ICS mod gives Nexus phones Windows Phone 7-style multitasking
While we at Android Community are understandably loyal to the little green guy, that doesn't mean we don't take notice of the competition. And it must be said, some of the phones coming out running Windows Phone 7 (especially those made by Nokia) are real head-turners. While a full WP7 port or popular Android devices is unlikely, various modders have ported elements of the MetroUI to Android. The latest is XDA member "evilisto" (never change, guys) who's added WP7-style multitasking to stock Ice Cream Sandwich.

Galaxy Nexus owner wins Microsoft competition, gets stiffed for prize [UPDATE]
Alright Android nation, ready your torches and pitchforks. Santa Clara resident and Android enthusiast Sahas Katta mozied on down to the Microsoft Store to participate n the Windows Phone Challenge on Sunday. The challenge is simple: if you can perform a given task faster on a non-Windows smartphone (in this case Katta's stock Verizon Galaxy Nexus) you win a free $1000 special-edition laptop. Long story short: Katta performed the task faster, but Microsoft representatives refused to award him the prize. Their reasoning? "Just because."

ComScore: Android still dominates US, BlackBerry and Windows fall further behind
Remember those reports from last month that showed Apple beating out Android in the latter half of 2011? The ones that half the internet jumped on as proof that Android was "falling behind"? Yeah, not so much. Despite a massive rise in iPhone sales in the fourth quarter, Android is still way out in front of the mobile landscape with 47.3 % market share, according to ComScore. Their number crunchers say that's a 2.5 point increase since Q3 2011. Apple continues to rise at a slower pace, capturing 29.6% of the total smartphone market in the US.

More evidence for an official Xbox Live Android app

More evidence for an official Xbox Live Android app
Earlier this month we reported that a job listing on Microsoft's website pointed towards a possible Xbox Live app for Android devices. That's looking more and more likely: a Microsoft spokesperson recently indicated that the company was looking to expand the social and remote features of the Xbox 360 with more mobile platforms. That would be a major boon to those who use a combination of Microsoft hardware on the console gaming side of things and Android (or iOS) on mobile - and given the high sales of both, that's a large section of that particular Venn diagram.

Nokia director says youths are confused with Android, probably doesn’t have kids
A little verbal back-and-forth is normal among megacorproations, and since Nokia is on the defensive, they're not above dishing some out. Speaking with Pocket Lint, Nokia's director of Portfolio, Product Marketing & Sales Niels Munksgaard claimed that Android phones don't sit well with young people on account of its complexity. He went on to say that they don't want the iPhone, because everyone already has one. I'll give you ten points if you can find the error in that statement.

NPD: Android passes 50% market share in the US
Android has been making a beeline to the top of the smartphone world for the last two years, and it looks like the little green OS that could has passed one of its biggest milestones yet. Research firm NPD says that Android runs on 53% of the smartphones being used in the US. No other OS comes close, with iOS in a distant second at 29%. If mobile operating systems were horses, Android would lead by about two and a half lengths.

Sega snubs Android, delays Sonic CD release till 2012 [UPDATE]
If your only experience with Sega's blue hedgehog is post-Dreamcast, you can stop reading now - this story isn't for you. If, however, you've been patiently awaiting the Android arrival of one of the most celebrated 2D platformers of all time, prepare to be disappointed. Though the Sega CD classic Sonic CD will see a release on the iPhone tomorrow, December 14th, it won't be hitting Android until early next year. We'd blame Dr. Robotnik, but you'd think that he'd be on board with Android all the way. Android fans should be used to waiting by now (cough cough, Verizon).

Microsoft tempts bitter Android users with free Windows Phone 7 devices
Not everyone is as enamored with Android as we are, and given recent events with a certain big red company that shall remain nameless, it's hard to blame them. But Microsoft is using some Android owners' experience with "malware" as an excuse for promoting Windows Phone 7, and it must be said, they're doing it in a pretty unique way. Tweet out a story of your Android malware woes, attach the hashtag #droidrage, and you might just get a response from Ben Rudolph the Windows Phone evangelist, giving you some shiny new Microsoft hardware.
