Android Community App of the Week: Android Pro Widgets

Every week we like to slow things down a little to highlight an app that's proven itself to be useful, fun, or just plain cool. There's plenty of new stuff coming out that'll rock your socks, like the sweet 3D New Year Live Wallpaper, but the App of the Week is our way to show off some of the lesser-known apps that deserve your attention. This week, it's social and PIM widget collection extraordinaire, Android Pro Widgets.

Beautiful Widgets passes 1 million paid downloads, celebrates with Google

Hopefully everyone is well aware of Google's latest news that the Android Market has surpassed 10 billion downloads. Today LevelUp Studios is celebrating something similar as the first paid app to pass 1 million downloads from the Android Market. I know things like Angry Birds comes to mind but it didn't launch originally on the Android Market and most of its downloads were on GetJar. The extremely popular weather and clock widget Beautiful Widgets is the first to 1 million downloads on Android and gets to claim the crown.

New Ice Cream Sandwich mail and calendar widgets leak out

Is "leak" still an applicable term for all the Ice Cream Sandwich information that's come to light before the official unveiling in Hong Kong? Perhaps "deluge", "torrent" or "tempest" would be more appropriate. The latest is a quick look at some of the Honeycomb-style widgets that are coming along  for the ride. They're not that different from their progenitors, but they do show off ICS' spiffy new UI, and smartphone users may be seeing similar versions when the software trickles down.

Tips to make your Android feel new and fresh again

We all love our Android phones, but if any of you are like me I occasionally find myself wanting to change things up a tad. Most of us have the same phone for around 2 years while we are on contract, but if you’ve wanted some change in your Android world then I have a few tips to keep things fresh. From the obvious like new wallpapers, to changing the entire lockscreen and more so check it out below.

Beautiful Widgets is FREE from GetJar

Beautiful Widgets has to be my outright favorite Android application of all time. I've installed this as the first purchase on so many friends phones and tablets I can't even keep count. It has been in the top paid, most downloaded, and editors choice lists for the Android market for the last year, at least. I don't know how many times on blogs, forums, and here at Android Community readers have said "What's that clock widget, or weather widget?" It is Beautiful Widgets, and right now it is FREE.

HD Widgets App: Made for Honeycomb and look amazing

I don't know about you guys but I'm constantly changing my widgets and live wallpapers on my Android devices. When we have all these different options to choose from why not right? Today we have a set of amazingly awesome and beautiful new widgets designed specifically for Android tablets. HD Widgets brings crisp, clear, and truly HD quality widgets to your homescreen and is available right now in the Android Market.

Days Left Widget for remembering important dates

My favorite feature of an Android Phone isn't it's ability to play Flash or it's slick interface (TouchWiz and Sense notwithstanding), it's the cool widgets you can download. Sure, we've all see the myriad of weather widgets and 70's era clock radio flip widgets, but Days Left is just as useful as it lets users count down to very important dates. The widgets can be coordinated by date due, colors, and can even have several overlays. Sizes can also be adjusted to make room for more dates, or focus on more information.
