‘Blocks’ wants to be the ‘Project Ara’ of smartwatches

Modular smartphones are popular, but what if the same could be accomplished on a smart wearable? Google’s Project Ara wants to let you snap together a phone or tablet with little modular add-ons, and Blocks wants you to have the same functionality for your wrist. The concept is similar to Project Ara, and equally attractive.

Samsung S-Circle wearable spotted with FCC

Samsung introduced a few wearables during Mobile World Congress, and it looks like another has recently been revealed by way of an FCC filing. This latest, still not yet announced by Samsung, is dubbed the S-Circle. Details coming from the filing have this listed as model number EI-AN900A and being described as an "activity tracker."

Omate TrueSmart: a Kickstarter shipment unboxing

Originally backed on the day the Omate TrueSmart Kickstarter launched, our shipment finally arrived earlier this morning. We realize plenty are still waiting, and while this may only serve to further tease you, we did want to offer this unboxing to address some complaints we have been seeing regarding the TrueSmart shipments.

Omate TrueSmart: out running

We have to remember one thing when talking about any gadget -- just because you may hate it, that doesn't mean it isn't a perfect device for someone else. While some may criticize smartwatches, or the Omate TrueSmart in particular, I am thinking it may be a good running partner. It is a bit early to get super excited here, however I did take the TrueSmart out for its first run this morning. And at risk of offer the spoiler in the beginning, it seems to have performed rather well.

Sony SmartBand and Lifelog Camera: hands-on from MWC 2014

We saw a preview of the Sony wearables back in January, during CES. And nicely, Sony was prepared to offer a bit more this time around. Coming out of MWC 2014, there was some hands-on time with the Sony SmartBand SWR10. This is a Bluetooth dongle at the moment, and will be paired with the Smart Lifelog Camera companion setup.

Omate TrueSmart Elegance and Sparkle editions unveiled: hands-on

Omate is here at Mobile World Congress showing a new model, as well as some new colors. This latest is the TrueSmart Elegance edition and it was introduced to address on issue in particular -- the weight of the watch. We mentioned in our initial hands-on how the TrueSmart initially felt heavy, and while we were able to get used to it, those going with the Elegance model shouldn't have that to worry about at all.

We've been watching the Omate TrueSmart rather closely since the Kickstarter launch, and while we managed to see the watch back in January during CES, we got to spend quite a bit more time with it here at Mobile World Congress. In fact, we not only spent some time checking it out, but we walked away with a unit for further review.

Google may be offering a new OS for wearables this Spring

While many of us want a true Android smartwatch, perhaps that’s reaching a bit too far. A new report suggests Google is going to release their own wearable OS this Spring, likely at I/O. Like Android, the new OS will be open source, and available for all OEMs to use.
