Verizon teases a ‘special announcement’ coming May 22 at CTIA
Today the folks from Verizon Wireless have piqued our interest a bit with a quick invitation for a "special announcement" in late May. For those that are unaware, the annual CTIA Wireless Tech event is taking place in Viva Las Vegas this year, and during the event on May 22nd Verizon looks to make some big announcements. We have a few ideas on what too.

Verizon Wireless customers petition carrier to drop contracts
Earlier in the month Verizon CEO Lowell McAdam touched on the subject of doing away with long term agreements. McAdam had said Verizon would consider such a move if it was something that customers began asking for. Basically, he didn't give much more than an acknowledgment.

LG Optimus Zone tipped as upcoming entry-level Verizon handset
Verizon Wireless recently released the LG Lucid 2 as a free on-contract device and while we were generally pleased with that handset in the time we spent with it, we are not entirely sure the same can be said about another entry-level device. The latest is the LG Optimus L3, which is said to be coming to Verizon as the LG Optimus Zone. Keep in mind though, we are talking about the Optimus L3, not the Optimus L3 II.

LG Lucid 2 smartphone review
Verizon Wireless has had the LG Lucid available for some time now. Coming as a follow-up, the carrier has recently released the Lucid 2, which has landed in the mid-range lineup as a budget friendly device. The LG Lucid 2 brings 4G LTE connectivity along with a 4.3-inch display and relatively slim design. Perhaps nicer for some, the handset is available for free on a two-year agreement and has a wide variety of additional accessories. With that being said, we have recently spent some time with the handset and have a bit to say about the device -- so, read on to see if this is one you should consider or simply ignore.

Verizon Wireless confirms upcoming ‘device payment plan’
Verizon Wireless confirmed some plans this past Friday. At the time the carrier announced they would soon be upping the upgrade cycle to 24-months. This, for those not familiar, is being upped from 20 months. This will be going into effect with contracts that expire after January 2014. Basically, if your contract is set to expire anytime in 2014, you will need to wait the full two-years before you can get a new phone.

The latest is from Clearwire and based on recent reports, Big Red has come forward with an offer that is upwards of $1.5 billion. The details of the offer began last week, however initially, the company that offered the $1.5 billion was simply referred to a Party J.

Samsung GALAXY S 4 launch dates leaked by Staples
While we wait for the official word from the carriers, it looks like one retailer has given a rough idea of when we can expect the GALAXY S 4 to begin arriving for sale here in the US market. That retailer is Staples and a recently leaked memo is giving a potential release date for AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless. Take note though, we say potential because the memo makes it clear that these are "tentative" launch dates.

Verizon Wireless may begin offering 12-month smartphone finance plans
A short while back we learned that Verizon Wireless would consider dropping the two-year agreements. This comment came by way of Verizon CEO Lowell McAdam. While this initially sounded like good news, it was really nothing more than the carrier saying this was something they would consider -- should it become something the customers began asking for. Well, flashing forward till today and it looks like we have a bit of follow up.
