The Motorola Droid's update to Android 2.2 (Froyo) hasn't been a rough ride, necessarily, but it also hasn't been the smoothest one, either. With so many different leaks, leading to different rumors running rampant out there, it could have been tough for anyone to keep up with it all. If you'll recall, that FRG22 article we wrote up last week, detailing how Verizon was making that version number the final Froyo update for the original Droid? Yeah, that one. Well, apparently that's still kicking around internally at Verizon, because it seems that Business customers are going to actually be getting two updates -- the last one, being FRG22.
Officially, the Motorola Droid's update to Android 2.2 began on August 3rd. That's the official statement, but as we've seen over the last week, that didn't necessarily happen as smoothly as Motorola (or Verizon) would have liked. Not surprising at all, though. As we saw today, the OTA update is happening now for the majority of other Droid owners out there, which falls right in line with the whole "roll-out" process.
Well, fancy that. If you've got a Droid X, or if you've heard about the issues with Exchange 2003 (and ActiveSync, and Exchange in general...), then you know that Motorola's hard at work at the problem. They say they are, anyway. And, despite the fact a new update just released, and didn't feature the fix to the problem, we figured that Android 2.2 would be the update to bring it around. Sure enough, a Motorola rep has just responded to a thread on Motorola's site, about Exchange, and verified the truth.
Apparently, when Sprint and HTC call a mulligan, they really mean it. And we'll go ahead and say that, in this case, the second time's a charm. As the title suggests, it sounds like a few (or, a lot) of lucky EVO owners out there are getting their own share of the Froyo love. All OTA style and what not.
Apparently, the MILESTONE missed the initial Android 2.2 bus. But, hey, at least it's getting it at all, right? We had actually heard rumors (which spurred from Motorola themselves, mind you) that the MILESTONE might not be getting upgraded to Android 2.2 at all. But, that's not the case for the MILESTONE that's branded with O2 Germany's decal.
