World’s thinnest smartphone comes in at 5.6mm thanks to China

Lately there has been an ongoing trend to try and earn the title and crown of having the "world's thinnest smartphone." The folks from OPPO, Huawei, and many others have all joined in on the fun, but the record keeps getting beat every few months as technology advances. Today a Chinese company is looking to smash all the competition with a truly razor thin smartphone.

Huawei Ascend P6 takes the crown as ‘world’s thinnest’ smartphone

While having a thin smartphone surely is something many of us consider while making a purchase decision. Something decently thin with great battery life sounds a bit more reasonable. Not everyone feels the same way however, because Huawei is back, again, with what they're calling the world's thinnest smartphone. Their new Ascend P6 takes the cake.

“World’s Thinnest” Oppo Finder set for pre-order in China

Another month, another world's thinnest smartphone. The latest contender for the somewhat wobbly throne is the 6.65mm Oppo Finder, last seen in a preview image about a month ago. The phone is currently set for preorder on June 6th, but unfortunately it's only in China, where Oppo operates. Getting a Finder into the hands of the fashion-conscious outside of Asia will require a crafty importer.

Oppo shows off crazy thin 6.65mm smartphone

You can never be too rich or too thin, and it seems like Android manufacturers have taken the latter part of that saying to heart. Chinese phone maker Oppo released a teaser image of a 6.65mm-thin phone today, and if it comes to market any time soon the unnamed device will grab the title of world's thinnest phone (for at least a month or two anyway). There's no details part the picture, but the visuals can't help but remind us of a certain flagship from everyone's favorite litigious American manufacturer.

HTC canceled bigger battery plans for thinner phones

Would you rather have a larger phone with a bigger battery that lasts forever? Or a thin, sleek and sexy phone? This was HTC's question and apparently they decided to shelf the bigger battery plans to compete with the DROID RAZR MAXX and opted for a mild upgrade to the battery. This will enabled them to produce the thin and awesome phones like what we are seeing today in the HTC One X and One S.

Samsung Galaxy S III rumored to be a mere 7mm thin

Today ends in the letter "y", and you know what that means: more Galaxy S III rumors! The latest scuttlebutt amongst unnamed "industry insiders" points to a 7mm profile on Samsung's flagship device, besting even the Motorola DROID RAZR for skinny dimensions. The rumor comes from ETnews, who also reports that the unnamed sources expect the phone to launch in May, probably as an international model. The only solid news concerning a Galaxy S II successor coming from Samsung is that it won't be showing up at Mobile World Congress, as the company is saving the good stuff for its own event at an unspecified date.

NEC MEDIAS ES N-05D is the latest ultra-slim superphone

Motorola didn't know they were setting off a fashionista arms race when they announced the DROID RAZR way back in November. The super-skinny superphone has drawn admiring reviews and no small amount of immitation, though Moto remains the only one close to its 7.1mm crown in the US market. The latest contender is the NEC MEDIAS N-05D (rolls off the tongue, dunnit?) slated for release on Japanese carrier NTT DoCoMo. The 6.7mm Android smartphone will launch in the first quarter of this year.
