There is no denying T-Mobile customers would love Galaxy Nexus from the carrier although many are using the GSM unlocked version at this time. T-Mobile hasn’t announced anything regarding a possible T-Mobile Galaxy Nexus but a recent twitter post by their good friend and pro skater Tony Hawk might have revealed their plans. Posting a picture on twitter with the Galaxy Nexus and the words “I love T-Mobile”.

Really, this could mean anything. He could be like thousands of others on T-Mobile that bought the international version. Or he could be extra special and received an official T-Mobile Galaxy Nexus early. The reason this is in the news today is because Tony Hawk has been a partner with T-Mobile for years — all the way back to the Sidekick days. They even released an officially branded Tony Hawk T-Mobile Sidekick at one point. Their relationship remains strong and he could be teaming up with them again with this next major release.

Being an Android site and loving T-Mobile we are optimistic and are assuming it’s a T-Mo version. This could all just be speculation and hopefully we’ll get some clarification from T-Mobile soon. If this was all planned it sure would be some sneaky and smart marketing — getting the interest peaked before an announcement. We’ll have to just wait and see. You can see the silver on the bottom right, ruling out the thought of this just being the T-Mobile Nexus S.

Maybe this is nothing and he’s just showing off his unlimited data. Who knows.

T-Mobile is at it again and are gearing up for the holiday although this time it isn’t a Christmas sale. Instead they want you to stay close to the ones you love this Valentine’s Day and to help you do so they’re offering all 4G smartphones completely free. The catch here is the sale’s for one day only — so you better hurry.

A few days before V-Day on February 11th T-Mobile will be offering all 4G smartphones and their best selling Android tablets completely for free. Obviously there is a small catch or two here and you’ll be required to sign a new 2-year contract agreement, but that was to be expected.

Nothing says “I love you” like a 4G smartphone from T-Mobile

The quote above is their official term for the holiday season and they’ve even released a little video with some humor and a cupid for the all new 2012 Valentine’s Day sale kicking off on the 11th. There is however one more catch that is worth noting. The devices aren’t actually free out of the gate, you’ll have to pay the $199 or whatever price up front and wait for a mail in rebate. So while this deal wont save you money this week that you can use on chocolate or flowers — it will save you in the long run once that mail in rebate returns.

Who will be getting struck by cupid this year and getting their loved one a new 4G phone from T-Mobile?

Today Verizon announced that the folks at JD Power and Associates rank them right at the top in customer service and satisfaction here in the United States. While they were quick to announce the findings — they aren’t the only ones. A different survey has different results and the fine folks from Vocalabs claims AT&T actually tips the top spot instead.

One important note is while Verizon was number one overall according to JD Power, they actually ranked AT&T first in walk-in customer service over Verizon. Then you take the findings today from Vocalabs linked to above, where they surveyed phone-based customer service instead. Combine their findings of AT&T being at the top for phone based support, and JD’s comments on walk-in’s this could technically mean overall AT&T is the best.

Vocalab’s study found that AT&T has been steadily improving both as a company and in customers eyes, while others such as T-Mobile and Sprint have continued to drop. According to Vocalab’s AT&T ranked “Very Satisfied” by customers after phone based support 69% of the time. Compared to 60% for Verizon, 59% for Sprint and a lowly 48% for T-Mobile. Surveys like this can be looked at in many different ways, as not all customers have the same needs. With AT&T being top in phone support here, and top in walk-in’s by JD it is safe to say they tend to make most of their customers extremely happy. I’m wondering if you asked about actual cell service what these polls would look like.

So you tell us. How is your experiences with AT&T? Would you rank them Very Satisfied like 69% of callers did last year?

Those of you out there surfing T-Mobile’s airwaves should know of upcoming changes your carrier will be putting into effect fairly soon. On April 5th, they plan on capping your domestic off-network data roaming usage. Limits are extremely low, so it will be important to keep an eye on data consumed while roaming.

When the limit is reached, users will not be able to access data services of any kind until they are reconnected to T-Mobile towers. Many smartphone users tend to purchase the 2GB data package, and this will land you 50MB of off-network usage after the change in April. The limit resets every billing cycle.

There a couple reasons why customers buy into “Unlimited” plans as soon as they become available: The first, for the comfort of knowing hidden fees won’t show up later. And second, knowing you’re going to have an unlimited amount of data – regardless of where you are in the USA. What do you T-Mobile customers have to say about this? Let us know in the comments below.

New documents have recently been spotted sharing more information about an upcoming top-tier smartphone for T-Mobile. At first thought this was a T-Mo Galaxy Nexus but after taking a closer look it appears this will most likely be the Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G — basically a tweaked and improved Galaxy S II. More details after the break.

Some sneaky readers searching through documents showing UAProf files for Samsung phones noticed one for model SGH-T999 had recently been published. Like mention above the first thoughts were a Galaxy Nexus but with the recent announcement of the Blaze 4G that is most likely what we have here. Recently their Galaxy S II was named SGH-T989 — leading us to believe this is either the Galaxy Nexus for T-Mobile, or the Blaze 4G but most likely the latter of the two.

Original details on the Galaxy S Blaze 4G detailed a large AMOLED display but no size or resolution was given. The news also claimed a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor and 8 megapixel camera. The phone has a slight redesign over the SGSII and has a little swoop or hump on the top rather than the bottom. The UAProf files mention a 1280 x 720p HD display on board — which makes sense given most phones have sported something similar as of late.

We’ll keep digging for more information but for now it looks like T-Mo is about to get another awesome smartphone to add to the list that offers similar specs to the Nexus.

This promotion will also include MobileLife Album Plus, an online cloud storage that holds up to 10GB of pictures and/or video. Until now, a free mobile hotspot has not been included in a tiered data plan. It may not entice people as much as Verizon’s previous holiday double data promotion – but should pull over a good few to their network.

They haven’t informed us through the sneakshot, but I would assume the promotion will be available for at least a month. So those of you that have been eyeing their phone lineup, I suggest waiting until the 25th to at least get free (and legal) WiFi tethering.

If you’ve been drooling over the leaked renders of the HTC Ville, you’d better have a T-Mobile account, or be willing to get one soon enough. According to PocketNow, the next-generation superphone will make its way to the magenta network in the United States sometime this spring. The Ice Cream Sandwich smartphone is one of HTC’s premiere devices for 2012, and expected to raise the bar for its price point. PocketNow did not reveal where they got their information.

Just in case you haven’t been keeping up on the HTC rumor mill, the Ville is expected to run on a 1.5Ghz dual-core processor with a 4.3-inch qHD (960×540) screen, using a much sought-after AMOLED panel. An 8 megapixel camera (possibly the same excellent model already in the HTC Amaze 4G) will adorn the back with a front-facing cam to boot. All that is crammed into a body less than 8mm thin, giving Samsung’s best a run for its money. The Ville is expected to be the workhorse of HTC’s 2012 line, filling the same role that the Sensation did last year without upstaging the quad-core HTC Edge. You can bet HTC will be using it to show off the latest version of its Sense UI as well. Expect to see a formal reveal at Mobile World Congress.

A new service from HTC was also uncovered with the new information. HTC Family will function as a sort of mini social network for families, with a wall (sort of a digital refrigerator whiteboard) and Google Latitude-style location tracking. It sounds usefull enough for parents who want to keep an eye on their kids – providing, of course, that they’re all using phones with a later version of HTC Sense. Expect it to be integrated into HTC’s suite as Ice Cream Sandwich updates roll out to current phones.

T-Mobile USA has revealed the Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G, the company’s latest Android smartphone and the newest iteration of the long-lived Galaxy S II series of phones. Powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S3 chip, the Blaze 4G has a Super AMOLED touchscreen and up to 42Mbps HSPA+ connectivity.

Aesthetically there are a few new changes to the Galaxy S II style, mainly amounting to rounded off corners and some extra swoop up at the top rear panel. Samsung and T-Mobile are being coy with the full specs, however, though we’re guessing on an 8-megapixel camera with 1080p HD video recording, a front facing camera for video calls and the usual mixture of WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS.

Pricing and availability are also unknown, with T-Mobile saying the Galaxy S Blaze 4G will be “coming soon this year.” Our guess is somewhere around the $200 mark with a new, two-year agreement.

The LG Optimus 2x has been enjoying the beauty of the MIUI custom ROM for a while already but sadly the T-Mobile G2x users weren’t so lucky. Thanks to some porting of the official MIUI for the Optimus 2x users of the LG G2x can now enjoy the same awesome ROM. Other than CyanogenMod, MIUI is one of the most popular ROM’s available and I’m sure many will be happy to give this a try.

While we’ve already seen plenty of builds of MIUI hacked to run on the G2x having an official build ported from the twin brother makes this as close to official as possible. For those that have been wanting to enjoy all that MIUI has to offer this is a great place to start for you G2x users. Thanks to XDA we have all the details for those looking to give it a try.

According to the official thread at XDA by stormageddon everything appears to be fully working and running great. That includes full WiFi calling, and all of the official features from MIUI. It even has the popular Trinity kernel for those that would like to also overclock their G2x and that dual-core processor to some impressive speeds. I know my old G2x handled 1.6 Ghz with ease and I recorded some stellar benchmarks that you can see in the links below.

Head on over the the XDA link below and give this a try today if you’re the modding or overclocking type.

There have been a few sales going on over the holidays, but it looks like T-Mobile is out to beat them for the new year. The carrier is preparing a sale for this weekend, from Friday, January 6th through Sunday, January 8th. The sale is (perhaps not by coincidence) scheduled right before CES 2012. If you’re in the market for a few specific Android models, you’ll want to pay close attention. Without a doubt, the highlight of the sale is the current leader in T-Mobile’s lineup, the HTC Amaze 4G, which will be reduced from $229.99 to just $49.99.

Other highlights include the T-Mobile Springboard (AKA the Huawei MediaPad) and the LG G-Slate for the same price. The G-Slate in particular is handy if you’d like a tablet with a mobile Internet connection, especially if you’re handy with a custom recovery, since it’s a favorite for Android modders. The LG MyTouch Q, a pretty decent mid-range phone, is free. Of course, all these prices are contingent upon a new contract. Just for the sake of completeness, I’ll mention that the Windows Phone 7-powered HTC Radar and the Sonic 4G hotspot are on sale for $49 and free, respectively.

Of course, with CES and Mobile World Congress right around the corner, you might want to hold off on any rash purchases. Not only will better models be coming down the pipeline very soon, but these phones and tablets will probably be discounted when the newer ones are released. Still, if you’re eligible for a discount for a new or renewed contract, it’s a very good deal on the high-powered Amaze 4G. Read our review if you’re on the fence.

For those looking for an awesome smartphone from T-Mobile today Best Buy has you completely covered. If you are a fan of smartphones with a full slide-out QWERTY keyboard then you’ll want to keep reading. The HTC myTouch 4G Slide is one of the best available for the hardware keyboard crowd and today it can be yours completely free.

Over at BestBuy.com they have a daily deal and today is just so happens to be a powerhouse Android 2.3 Gingerbread dual-core smartphone from T-Mobile in the myTouch 4G Slide. With an amazing camera, awesome keyboard and a dual-core processor this phone is at the top end of current smartphones. There is no better price than free either.

This is for new 2-year contract signers only but that was to be expected. Getting a top tier smartphone for absolutely free is quite a deal if you ask me. It’s not too late for a Christmas gift and this would surely make someone happy as we bring in the new year. The Best Buy “deal of the day” only lasts for one day so if you’ve been looking to upgrade that old G1 or original slide over on T-Mobile today would be a wise day to do so. Hit the link below to get your own but you’d better hurry.

During a hacking convention in Berlin conducted by Germany’s Security Research Labs, a hacker discovered a security hole within the GSM mobile network. In Mr. Karsten Nohl’s own words:

We can do it to hundreds of thousands of phones in a short timeframe. None of the networks protects users very well. Mobile network is by far the weakest part of the mobile ecosystem, even when compared to a lot attacked Android or iOS devices.

This is quite disappointing. Though many of us choose to have a tier of texting or data – nearly 100% of us have some sort of voice plan incorporated. In case you don’t know which carriers use GSM networking technology, they include AT&T, T-Mobile, the select states with Cellular One, and many others: Yes this means you guys on Big Red and The Now Network are in the clear!

To make matters worse, compromised phones would be completely under the hacker’s control. Text messages or phone calls can be carried out easily and at any time. And until GSM carriers patch the security vulnerability, subscribers are all at risk. Fortunately, it will only take some updating of outdated software. There is no timeframe advertised to the public, but I’m sure it will be first on their “To-Do” lists (if not done already). We should all thank Mr. Nohl and those at the conference for discovering this vulnerability and restoring security to the airwaves.

This past year we’ve seen the Android OS grow to unimaginable heights and it has helped reassure its adopters time after time they are in good hands. Through the countless devices we’ve handled and reviewed, the devices and merchandise given away, and events we’ve attended – 2011 been one of our best year’s! Though indiscrete after a while, one of our biggest changes was our AC logo. It proved to be a much welcome change to the entire community. Also, this is the first year of Device.AC – our Android Community device database. Its got the specific specs of the latest and greatest to earliest and iconic Android devices. The release of Google+ and Google Music were quite significant as well. They have brought us closer to acquaintances of all kinds – whether it be friends or co-workers.

It seems as though Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) arrived so long ago, but in reality the user features and official announcement was just in January. And contrarily, Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) seemed to sneak up on us almost instantly. Ice Cream Sandwich was officially announced at Google I/O, and don’t forget the 5,000 attendees that received a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 with 3 months of Verizon 4G LTE service for free. Who knows what will be in store for us in 2012 within Jelly Bean.

The Samsung Galaxy S II was the most accomplished handset of 2011 – hands down. Reaching all major carriers over the globe, the Galaxy S II does nothing other than make Android look good, real good. Our man Chris Davies set a new standard to the term “Unboxing” with his extreme unboxing video of the GSII. On the other hand, I feel it necessary to say Sprint’s Kyocera Echo was the most pointless. Sure dual screens will possibly “work” one day, but by then they better be built to last and have the hardware to properly perform while maintaining sufficient battery life. For the tablets we’ve reviewed, it’s safe to hand off the first place trophy to the ASUS Transformer Prime. The NVIDIA “Kal-El” quad core super chip soon be seen in the future of tablets within 2012.

A recap of the giveaways of the year consist of the Motorola XOOM, Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, Android mini collectibles, Android Community official merchandise, and of course Tabletpalooza. The latter consisted of a month long tablet giveaway that made plenty of our fans happy. And here’s a hint: We’ve got another huge one coming for 2012 – so stay tuned.

Two of the most innovatively new devices seen for 2011 are the Samsung Galaxy Note, WIMM Labs 1.7 wearable Android platform, and the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. With the Note, Samsung finally offers a polished Android device to those yearning for a modestly sized handset. Though the 5″ screen hasn’t taken off yet, I assume it will eventually be a hit. On the other hand, literally, we have the WIMM Labs Android platform. This device can be worn as a watch, clipped to a bookbag or briefcase, or simply pocketed. Through “micro-apps” users will be able to interact with their other Android devices. Finally, the Galaxy Nexus sporting an extra large 4.65″ screen with no softkeys was released on Verizon here in the US. This device alone (and more importantly Android 4.0), will change the future of Android forever.

T-Mobile will be following through with their addition of the 1900MHz frequency bands to their network. They’ll be updating their towers from here on out, and this will make many current T-Mobile customers extremely happy; the 1900MHz bands should allow unlocked and imported devices to finally reach 3G speeds.

Sure Edge speeds let you access the internet, but it’s those with an unlocked speedy smartphone on T-Mobile’s network should at least be able to access 3G signal. There’s no idea where they’ll rollout the updates to the network first, so unlocked iPhone users just keep an eye on your device to see if you finally connect to a 3G network. Maybe we can find an update pattern.

Most future devices from T-Mobile will probably come equipped with capabilities for the new bands – but until then unlocked/international devices will be the only ones compatible. Personally, I was expecting an update to 1900MHz from T-Mobile due to their suggested AT&T buyout deal. Since that has fallen through, hopefully they continue with their plans.

AT&T has just issued a statement today outlining what many probably already saw coming. And that is that they have decided to call it quits and end the bid for a T-Mobile buyout. This was by far one of the biggest corporate deals this year, especially in the mobile industry but at the moment it appears to be dead in the water — and for good. More details and the official statement are below.

Earlier this year AT&T proposed a $39 billion dollar buyout of T-Mobile USA and since the announcement it has been under a heavy amount of scrutiny. This came from all angles by Sprint, and even the US Government. I had a feeling things wouldn’t be ending on a good note and today it appears that is exactly what is happening. Don’t worry though because they still get a big piece of cash at the end of the day. We’ve covered this story so much in the recent past that I had almost stopped reporting the small updates — although today’s new is a bit more important.

Here’s the official statement from AT&T earlier today:

The actions by the Federal Communications Commission and the Department of Justice to block this transaction do not change the realities of the U.S. wireless industry. It is one of the most fiercely competitive industries in the world, with a mounting need for more spectrum that has not diminished and must be addressed immediately. The AT&T and T-Mobile USA combination would have offered an interim solution to this spectrum shortage. In the absence of such steps, customers will be harmed and needed investment will be stifled.”

T-Mobile will still cash in on the breakup fee that was discussed earlier this year (around $4-6 billion), but this isn’t good news for either party. AT&T has stated they’ve already set aside the 4 billion they’ll owe T-Mobile USA but we are still slowly getting the details as this entire story is just breaking. Feel free to read up on all the details on this merger from our timeline below. We should be hearing more from both parties sometime soon.

It’s a common enough argument: my phone is better than your phone. If you’ve got any friends who are particularly attached to their iPhones, you might hear it a lot. T-Mobile’s out to end the debate, and they’re not above using Scott Pilgrim-grade nostalgia to do it. Their latest anti-iPhone commercial pits their current flagship the HTC Amaze 4G against the iPhone 4S in a one-on-one battle <del>to the death</del> to the end of Round 1.

The 90-second ad is mostly about the phones’ respective cameras: both shoot 8 megapixel stills and 1080p video. T-Mobile argues in favor of the Amaze 4G, with arguments about panoramic views, face recognition and sports-friendly burst modes. And 8-bit robot samurai fists. You can probably guess who emerges victorious, but if you’re in suspense, check out the video embedded below:

Even as a rabid Android supporter, it’s hard to deny that the cameras in the iPhone 4 and 4S are impressive. But as our own Amaze 4G review states, the Android competition is fast catching up, and the Amaze 4G meets or beats just about every Android phone we’ve tested as far as camera quality goes. Better than the iPhone? Well.. no. But given the extra features and the lack of iPhone availability on T-Mobile, it’s definitely the best you can get on the carrier.

For even more iPhone-bashing ads, check out Samsung’s awesome Galaxy S II spot and T-Mobile’s previous efforts poking fun at Apple’s ubiquitous format.

A little verbal back-and-forth is normal among megacorproations, and since Nokia is on the defensive, they’re not above dishing some out. Speaking with Pocket Lint, Nokia’s director of Portfolio, Product Marketing & Sales Niels Munksgaard claimed that Android phones don’t sit well with young people on account of its complexity. He went on to say that they don’t want the iPhone, because everyone already has one. I’ll give you ten points if you can find the error in that statement.

“What we see is that youth are pretty much fed up with iPhones… Also, many are not happy with the complexity of Android and the lack of security,” said Munksgaard. He reaffirmed Nokia’s commitment to “different” phones, by running Windows Phone 7. You know, that OS that’s been available for over a year and hasn’t cracked 10% market share yet. Nokia has already started shipping WP7 devices in Europe, and T-Mobile will be the first to sell them in the United States.

To be fair, you’d have a hard time arguing that Android is as easy as iOS or WP7 to use. But calling it difficult it a bit of a stretch; my 75-year-grandmother manages her DROID 3 like a champ, and she’s been known to get confused by her microwave. (Love you, Grandma.) And the market has spoken for itself: with Android pushing past 50% share in markets around the world, including the US and UK, Nokia has got a lot of work to do before they’re ready to play with the big boys again.

Disclaimer: I don’t know Mr. Munksgaard. I’m sure he’s a very nice man and his children, if he has any, are lovely. I probably shouldn’t have used his uninformed and inflammatory statement to laugh at Nokia’s fall from the top of the smartphone world to the very bottom.

It looks like those HTC handsets over on T-Mobile aren’t the only ones having some upgrade fun this week. The Galaxy S II T-Mobile update is rolling out as we speak and should also be available via Kies for those opting for that route as usual.

Just like the recent HTC Amaze 4G update the SGSII has now received WiFi calling and a few other improvements like T-Mo Caller ID. We have already posted a full review of the Galaxy S II and this phone will only get better with updates and improvements as it’s already an awesome phone. Get it this weekend for free with the T-Mobile 4G Super Sale.

Full details on the OTA update can be found over at the T-Mo support page. Other than the few new changes mentioned above they are also toting better battery life and performance. Something every update usually lists as a new feature and we’ll be sure to give it a test. That is all they mention so it appears to be a relatively small update and should only take a few minutes should users accept the “optional” update. It should arrive sometime over the next week and as usual you can manually update by going to menu > settings > about phone > check for updates. Enjoy!

T-Mobile is at it again with another huge sale before the crazy after holiday sales start. They’ll be offering every T-Mobile 4G enabled device basically for free with a new 2-year contract and unlimited data plan — although there is a small catch. This “4G Super Sale” will be all day Saturday and Sunday while supplies last so you’ll want to hurry if you are looking for a new smartphone this holiday season.

So what is the small catch you ask? Customers will be required to pay the initial down payment for the device all the way up to $299 out of pocket, but will receive a mail in rebate for the full price. Making every T-Mobile 4G device be free this weekend, only you’ll have to wait for the rebate to get the funds back. Here is the official wording from T-Mobile:

all phones and select Mobile Broadband Devices, including the LG G-Slate, are available for a net down payment of $0.00 (after a mail-in rebate) when purchased with a qualified Unlimited Value Plan on a two-year contract.”

It looks as if T-Mobile is aiming to beat the holiday sales from others by offering all 4G devices for free just a week before Christmas. Pretty good plan if you ask me. Being able to get the awesome Galaxy S II for free sure beats what others are asking lately. T-Mobile should be announcing more details any day now but all the information above and at the source details it plenty clear. If you’re ok with paying up front and waiting for a rebate you can get an awesome T-Mobile 4G device for free this weekend. Will you be buying?

Here’s an odd one: the CyanogenMod team, makers of the most widely-used custom ROM out there, have completely dropped support for the T-Mobile Galaxy S Vibrant. It’s not a hardware issue, as CyanogenMod supports much older and weaker phones. No, the problem comes from Samsung’s proprietary radio software, which is apparently keeping the custom version of Android from dialing 911.

The issue is particularly vexing since Samsung is usually quite good about releasing open-source code for its devices. And indeed, the Vibrant’s code is available, but the specific bit of code required for full access to the wireless radio is not. Samsung has a pretty good relationship with the modder community, especially after hiring Steve “Cyanogen” Kondik. I’ve got to believe that Mr. Kondik tried to get the relevant data from his employers, to no avail.

The CM team has dropped support for devices before when they hit a way that would make satisfactory development impossible. It’s likely that more modders will take CyanogenMod’s open source code and port it back to the Vibrant, but I wouldn’t recommend using it. You might never need to dial 911 from your cell phone, but going without the functionality is just asking for trouble. The Vibrant’s stock firmware was updated to Gingerbread, so it might be best to stick with that until you get a new phone, as the ROM developers suggest.
