Video accounts for 50% of Verizon Wireless network traffic

Coming by way of the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) conference, Verizon Communications CEO Lowell McAdam has said that streaming video now accounts for 50 percent of the network traffic. And extending that out a few years, McAdam believes that streaming video will account for nearly two-thirds by the year 2017.

Redbox Instant opens for streaming

Coming off of what was an invitation-only beta period, Redbox Instant is now available for the pubic. At this point the invitation is no longer needed and signing up requires nothing more than a visit to the Redbox Instant website. Well, that and the action of actually signing up. We should also give the warning right from the beginning, there is a free trial available, however you will need to provide some credit card details in order to get started.

The latest music streaming service has launched for Android users. The service is called Magic Radio and it comes by way of doubleTwist. In fact, the Magic Radio service has arrived as part of the latest doubleTwist app update. Magic Radio is included with doubleTwist v2.0 and touts itself as being perfect for those who are "tired of listening to the same old songs from your music library."

Beats Electronics drops details on Project Daisy music streaming service

Coming off previous reports of a music streaming service from Beats Electronics, we now have some official details. Specifically, the company has announced Project Daisy and while some of the finer points are still missing, we are getting a look at what we can expect. Details coming from Beats Electronics brings talk of a $60 million dollar investment and some of the names that will be backing the project.

Miracast, for those unfamiliar with the name, means you can mirror the display from the device in your hand to your television. This update is currently available for the PTV3000 and brings support for select Android devices.

Slacker Radio v4.0 update brings a redesigned Android app [Hands-On]

The Slacker Radio has recently been updated and while we are fans of the new look and new design, we will offer the warning up front -- if you are really loving your currently installed version of the app, you may want to hold off on this update. While the core features of the app seem to have remained the same, the look and feel has been given a complete overhaul. You can get a look at that in the image below, even the app icon has undergone a dramatic change.

Well, another company is going to be jumping into the fight. Redbox, the disc-based movie rental service that is in nearly every grocery store, is getting ready to launch its own streaming service, and some new details have emerged on its service.
