SoftBank aims to purchase Sprint with $23 billion bid

After hearing a few initial rumors early this week, it's becoming clear that the folks from SoftBank are taking a huge interest in one of the United States biggest mobile carriers. The Japanese mobile giant, SoftBank, has issued a bid for Sprint here in the US to the tune of around $23 billion in what appears to be borrowed cash.

Sprint to cap mobile hot spot data plans starting October 2

Sprint has gone and killed off one of the few things that many of us liked about the carrier. It has stuck to the unlimited offerings while other carriers have been killing them off. Sprint is having second thoughts now as it has confirmed to BGR that it will in fact place a cap on mobile hotspot data used from Android smartphones and other smartphones starting early in October.

Samsung Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch Hands-On

In case anyone missed it, today was Samsung day and they've officially announced the Samsung Galaxy S II Smartphone is headed to all three major US carriers with the exception of Verizon (they have bigger plans so I'm told). We were live at the NYC Samsung event getting all the juicy details. For the official announcement of the Epic 4G Touch click here. The WiMAX version will be available starting September 16th for the low price of just $199. We have pictures and videos below.

Samsung Conquer 4G offers WiMAX for under $100

Samsung has outed its latest 4G smartphone, the CDMA/WiMAX Samsung Conquer 4G, and the first to land at under $100 from the get-go. Built around Android 2.3 Gingerbread, a 3.5-inch 320 x 480 touchscreen and a 1GHz MSM8655 Snapdragon processor, the Conquer 4G will be $99.99 with a new, two-year agreement. As the display might suggest, the rest of the Conquer 4G's specs don't exactly live up to flagship WiMAX smartphones we've seen before. There's a 3.2-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a front-facing 1.3-megapixel camera for video calls, WiFi b/g/n and GPS, along with a microSD card slot with a 2GB card pre-loaded. Mobile Hotspot functionality is supported, for up to five simultaneous clients, and the whole thing measures in at 4.57 x 2.38 x 0.46 inches and weighs 4.1 oz. Samsung reckons the Conquer 4G will run for up to six hours of talktime on a single charge of the standard 1,500 mAh battery, which is decent enough. We're not entirely impressed by the screen resolution, but otherwise you're getting a fair amount for your money when the Conquer 4G arrives on August 21. [gallery]

Are we having issues sending text messages from our Sprint powered phone this afternoon? Don't worry because you are not alone, apparently the network is currently down and Sprint is working diligently to get it back up and running. HTC EVO Shift 4G Getting Gingerbread 2.3 OTA Starting June 20th

Uh oh, it looks like someone has some insider information regarding a few of those EVO branded devices. A new report is just coming in that the HTC EVO Shift 4G will also be receiving an OTA update on Monday June 20th, but this will be the update to Android 2.3 Gingerbread. We can assume that the fixes that are said to start rolling out on the 20th for the EVO 4G will be included in the Shift 4G's update to fix any of the same issues.
