Spotify introduces Discover Weekly personalized “mixtape” for users

They may still be one of the most popular music streaming services out there, but the emergence of competitors that are bent on enticing users to their own product means that Spotify will have to step up their game even more. Apple Music’s human-curated playlists has been making headway with music lovers, but it isn’t as personal as some would like it to be. Therefore, Spotify’s new Discover Weekly feature may be the thing that some are looking for.

Classic rockers AC/DC finally arrives on music streaming services

Music streaming may be big business now, but not all artists are immediately on board to have their entire catalog available for the world on various platforms, without actually paying for them per se. There are those who take some time before finally allowing their labels to put up their music on places like Spotify, Rdio, Deezer, and Google Play Music (and now, Apple Music as well). One of the most popular rock bands in the world, AC/DC, has finally agreed to join said services and classic rock fans couldn't be happier.

Spotify on Sonos gets updated with new tools and features

Sonos and Spotify have been making sweet music together for some time now and a recent update will even make things better. As one of the more popular music streaming apps today, Spotify is the choice of many Android users (me included) because it's easy and convenient to use and has a really large audio library.

Spotify now available as an app for Android Wear

When smartwatches and wearables came on the scene, listening to music on your mobile devices became even easier. Not that you'd listen to music directly from something on your wrist, mind you. But controlling the music without touching your smartphone saves you a few minutes and several movements as well. One of the most popular (yet controversial) music streaming services will be arriving soon to your wearables. Welcome Spotify to the (apparently 4,000-app strong) world of Android Wear.

Rithm to challenge music streaming with cheaper price, messaging

The battle of the music streaming services just got even more interesting (and no, we're not talking about Jay Z's Tidal) with the arrival of another new challenger to the throne. Rithm has been in beta for some time now, but finally they're ready to take on the world, with a price tag that might attract those hold-outs for a paying service and a built-in messaging service that encourages sharing music with your friends.

Universal asks Spotify to “strongly urge” users to switch to premium

While there is no doubt that digital music and music streaming services has totally revolutionized the way we listen to and consume music, what is still up for debate is how artists and music label are "properly compensated". The freemium business model, headed up by the biggest of them all, Spotify, has been causing a lot of friction in the industry. Now, even one of the stakeholders of the service is dissatisfied with how they are monetizing from users who have almost unlimited access to their catalog.

Mix like a DJ, mix free with djay Free

Algoriddim, makers of the relatively successful premium DJ app “djay 2”, have released a limited but free version of their music mixing app called “djay Free”. Being a free app, you know you won’t be getting the whole shebang of features and stuff – but you might be surprised that you’ll enjoy what’s included in the free package.

Sony Music Unlimited to end as partnership with Spotify begins

As far as music streaming is concerned, Spotify seems to still be the king (Taylor Swift brouhaha and all) despite similar services cropping up left and right. They're further expanding their market with the recent announcement of a partnership with Sony, in effect killing the Japanese OEM's own music service called Music Unlimited. This may be a bit of bad news for those attached to that particular brand, but great news for Sony users who have yet to discover the joys of Spotify.

Turntable music app djay 2 now on Android

If it's been your life-long dream to become a full-fledged DJ or even just mixing music at your parties, but you don't have the equipment or talent yet to do so, then of course there's an app for that now. djay 2 is now available for Android devices and all you need is a wide library of music (or a Spotify account will do) and a sense of musicality (we're guessing that is needed), a bit of practice and you can let your smartphone or tablet do the talking, or rather, the singing.

Spotify Family gives discount for multiple accounts

Listening to Spotify in all its unlimited access and ad-free glory is pretty much a requirement for most people these days (especially if you're sick and tired of that Spotify guy's voice) and it will not cost you an arm and a leg. But what if you have an entire household clamoring for their very own account? The expenses of paying for multiple subscriptions would then get to you. Your favorite music streaming service is trying to help you out with that by giving you big discounts with its Spotify Family package.
