Sony adds Xperia Z1, Z2 to AOSP for Xperia, updates Xperia Z

While Sony might arguably be not the top Android seller in the world, the OEM is popular for trying to do right by its users, especially when it comes to the Android community, especially modders and custom ROM makers. Aside from providing official instructions, and warnings, for unlocking bootloaders, it also provides kernel sources and configurations on the open source GitHub repository to be used by those who want to create their own Android version of its devices. Today, those sources welcome three devices to the fold.

Live on Youtube app updated, more Xperia devices supported

We talked about this cool app a while back, which allows Sony Xperia device users – in actuality, it was initially just for the current flagship, the Sony Xperia Z2 – to broadcast live video over their Youtube channel. An update for the “Live on Youtube” app has just rolled out from Sony, and we’re getting news that more devices are supported.

Android 4.4.4 now rolling out to Xperia Z1, Z1 Compact, and Z Ultra

Sony Xperia Z1 Compact, Z1, and Z Ultra users can now update their smartphone units to the latest and greatest version of Android Kitkat, as Sony has begun rolling out the 4.4.4 updates to these models. It was actually the Z1 Compact who got the update a day before the Z1 – last year’s flagship model – and the Z Ultra also were included in the list.

XDA port allows 4K video recording on Sony Xperia Z1 and Z1 Compact

Isn’t it nice when flagship smartphone features actually make their way down the ladder to owners of flagship devices from a year or two ago? This is exactly what Sony Xperia Z1 and Z1 Compact users are experiencing right now when Android aficionados from the XDA Forums announced this week that 4K recording – famously available on this year’s Xperia Z2 – will also be available to their year-old units, after a fashion.
