Sony adds Xperia Z1, Z2 to AOSP for Xperia, updates Xperia Z

While Sony might arguably be not the top Android seller in the world, the OEM is popular for trying to do right by its users, especially when it comes to the Android community, especially modders and custom ROM makers. Aside from providing official instructions, and warnings, for unlocking bootloaders, it also provides kernel sources and configurations on the open source GitHub repository to be used by those who want to create their own Android version of its devices. Today, those sources welcome three devices to the fold.

Android Lollipop is coming to all Sony Xperia Z devices

Boo yah! Sony just dropped a big one on us today as they have announced what seems to be a roadmap for future software releases on their premium Xperia Z series. We’ve all heard of Android Lollipop (who hasn’t?), and we’ve all seen what it can do – the minimalist Material Design, the new features. That’s one thing. But it is a whole other thing – and exciting, at that – to declare that a whole series of your premium phones is getting it.

Multiboot capabilities spread to Xperia Z and OnePlus One

Probably one of the coolest things you can do on an Android device is to give it the capability to boot into different operating systems at your bidding. As most of you will know, this is not a standard feature that goes into the list of things manufacturers allow for, given the business implications. Still it was great that XDA developer “Tassadar” developed MultiROM to give people who want this feature a shot.

Sony may go beyond 2m of water in new devices at IFA 2014

Sony may have established itself as the newest expert when it comes to waterproof devices ever since the advent of the Xperia Z series, but it still wants to push the aquatic boundaries even more. In their latest teaser before the start of the IFA 2014 in Berlin, they hinted that they may be going to a deeper level with the new devices that they will be announcing at their upcoming press event during the ubiquitous tech expo.

Sony Underwater apps lets you play with your phone in water

If it’s always been your dream to play with your smartphone while it is (or you are) submerged in water, then you better get yourself an Xperia Z1s or Xperia Z from T-Mobile. Sony has introduced 6 silly but fun underwater apps for when you are scuba-diving and have the urge to play games in the water or for when you just want to dunk your phone in the water then use it.

Sony Xperia Z, ZL, ZR, Tablet Z to get Android 4.4 next month

It was just a few month ago when Sony rolled out Android 4.3 Jelly Bean to some of its early 2013 devices but it seems the manufacturer isn't done yet. Up on their respective support pages, Sony has scheduled the Xperia Z, Xperia XL, and Xperia ZR smartphones, as well as the Xperia Tablet Z for another software refresh in May.
