Sony Xperia U

Sony Xperia U Review

Sony released a scattershot of Xperia phones last year, and has decided to take a more measured approach this year, unveiling the NXT series at MWC 2012. That included the Xperia S and Xperia P, but today we’ll be reviewing the Xperia U, the smallest and cheapest of the three. That doesn’t mean it’s lacking in specs, though: a dual-core 1Ghz processor lies at the beating heart of the phone, and it’s staggering to think we’ve reached a point where a budget handset can include such a chip. How does it all stack up, though?

Sony Xperia P and Xperia U delayed to late May

The junior members of Sony's new smartphone triforce will have to wait a little longer to distinguish themselves from the top of the line Xperia S. According to UK online retailer Clove, both the Xperia P and the Xperia U have been pushed back to a May 28th release. Technically we can only deduce that the delay is true for the United Kingdom, but given Sony's general release habits this probably means it's true for greater Europe as well.

Sony exposes launch details for new Xperia devices

Clove has just released that the Sony Xperia P and Xperia U should be available on April 23rd. The Xperia P will retail for £315 ($425) and the Xperia U will set you back a bit less, at £199 ($268). These prices reflect the black versions of both handsets, but it's likely they will carry over to other colors.

Sony Xperia U hands-on

After a long period of surreptitious peeks, the Sony Xperia U is finally official. This cute little guy is the "baby bear" to the Xperia S and the newly unveiled Xperia P, sitting at the bottom of the line but featuring surprisingly good hardware and styling, including a color-shifting translucent navigation area. After Sony's press conference we hung around to try out the small wonder and came away with some pics just for you. Is the Sony Xperia U "just right"? Decide for yourself below:

Sony Xperia U officially announced

Digging the style in Sony's Xperia S superphone, but need something that doesn't poke out of your breast pocket? Then the Xperia U might be right up your alley. Sony officially announced the diminutive 3.5-inch phone today at Mobile World Congress. The smaller phone keeps the squared-off style and see-through navigation/alert area of the Xperia S, but seems to be saddled with the now-outdated Sony Ericsson branding, even though Sony announced that the two companies have now been officially integrated. Sony says that the final branding will be Sony-only.

Sony Xperia U shows up next to big brother Xperia S

Exciting news if you're a fan of Sony's Xperia designs, but not the huge displays that seem to permeate the mobile world these days: the Sony Xperia U (also known as the Kumquat/st25i) has been spotted in its first set of leaked photos. It's getting comfy with Sony's new international flagship, the Xperia S, in a series of shots found by Android HD Blog (Italian). Both phones share a lot of design DNA, but it looks like the Xperia U is much smaller, with a screen somewhere in the ballpark of 3.2 inches. Like the S, the Xperia U is still running Gingerbread.

Sony ‘Kumquat’ could launch as XPERIA U

We saw a picture of the Sony ST25i, codename "Kumquat", leak last Friday. Now sources suggest it will debut as the Sony XPERIA U, likely at Mobile World Congress 2012 in Barcelona. Earlier reported, this new XPERIA device will not be the top dog in their lineup, but more like a middle man. It will sport a 1GHz dual-core processor and have a smaller screen than their other newly announced devices, likely right around 3.5".
