Sony Xperia P gets benchmarked
The middle child always seems to get the least amount of attention. So it is with Sony's Xperia P: the high-end Xperia S gets the accolades, the tiny Xperia U gets the "aaaaws", but the P is stuck somewhere in between. Well we're not ones to ignore a phone based on its familial issues, and neither is Greek site Digital Life. They've got a hold of the as yet unreleased phone and put it through the standard benchmark paces.

Sony Xperia P and Xperia U delayed to late May
The junior members of Sony's new smartphone triforce will have to wait a little longer to distinguish themselves from the top of the line Xperia S. According to UK online retailer Clove, both the Xperia P and the Xperia U have been pushed back to a May 28th release. Technically we can only deduce that the delay is true for the United Kingdom, but given Sony's general release habits this probably means it's true for greater Europe as well.

Sony exposes launch details for new Xperia devices
Clove has just released that the Sony Xperia P and Xperia U should be available on April 23rd. The Xperia P will retail for £315 ($425) and the Xperia U will set you back a bit less, at £199 ($268). These prices reflect the black versions of both handsets, but it's likely they will carry over to other colors.

Sony Xperia P hands-on
Being the middle child often gives someone some emotional scars. But if our first look at Sony's Xperia P is anything to go by, the kid will be alright. Sitting in between the high-end Xperia S and the smaller Xperia U, the P plays the middle ground well, keeping the interesting styling of its big brother while incorporating a more pocketable form factor (and hopefully, a more palatable price). Check out our hands-on photos and impressions of from Barcelona below.

Sony Xperia P officially announced

Sony Xperia P officially announced
While Sony might not have the massive 7-phone lineup that LG brought to Mobile World Congress, it isn't content with just one, so it brought the Xperia P to keep the little Xperia U company. Previously known as the "Nypon", the Xperia P fits nicely in between the high-end S and the new U to fill out the first trio of devices announced since Sony's absorption of Sony Ericsson.  Sony just announced the phone during its Mobile World Congress press conference, so details are a little light, but it looks like it's running a screen somewhere in the 3.7-4.0 inch range.

Sony Nypon rumored to come to market as “Xperia P”

Sony's got a pretty wide range of Android phones on offer at the moment, and that doesn't look to change any time soon. Just last week we saw some spy shots of the LT22i model, codenamed the Nypon. GSM Arena reports that the device may come to market as the Xperia P, as the other recently leaked smartphone, the Kumquat, may be labelled the Xperia U. Granted, these are probably better than naming your smartphone after an obscure Chinese fruit, but I was certainly hoping for better differentiation as Sony readies its newly integrated brand.
