Sony Ericsson XPERIA mini pro on sale now

Sony Ericsson's XPERIA mini pro has gone on sale in the UK, with carrier Vodafone offering the diminutive Android smartphone from free on new two year agreements from £20.50 ($34) per month. Packing a 3-inch touchscreen, slide-out physical keyboard and a 5-megapixel camera with video recording support, the mini pro is being positioned as Sony Ericsson's take on the Facebook Phone concept, thanks to its Facebook Inside XPERIA support. That boosts the integration of the social network throughout Sony Ericsson's customized Gingerbread build, with Facebook events automatically showing up in the calendar, the ability to "Like" music you're playing or other things directly from the relevant app, and automatic gallery sync complete with comments. Obviously there's the usual Android Market support as well, all in a compact 92 x 53 x 18 mm chassis. Meanwhile, the XPERIA mini pro is already available unlocked and SIM-free from retailers like Clove, priced at around £246 ($405) including tax. More details on the smartphone in our hands-on report. Motorola Remains Independent, No Necessary Nexus in Future

While Google's purchase of the Motorola group may mean many things for Google, especially along the lines of patents, Motorola will, if Andy Rubin and Motorola's Sanjay Jha are to be trusted, still act as a separate company. In addition, Rubin has doubly assured the Android public that the next Nexus device coming from Google will not necessarily be a Motorola device, and that Motorola "will be part of that bidding process" but will not necessarily be a certain lock-in.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo, Play, and Arc Soon to get Official CyanogenMod

CyanogenMod, everybody's (or at least my) favorite custom ROM is in line to make its way to several of Sony Ericsson's latest devices. Earlier this year SE made developers overjoyed when it announced plans to help owners of its latest phones unlock their bootloaders at the cost of official updates and warranties. That freedom is about to pay off as code for bringing CM 7.1 to the Xperia Neo, Play, and Arc is currently awaiting official approval.

Sony Ericsson Announces Qriocity Video Service for Xperia Devices

Today the good folks at Sony Ericsson have let the world know that a brand new video service for Xperia phones will be launching starting on August 1st, 2011. This service will allow users to either buy or rent movies and television shows, this service complimenting the mobile brand's recently announced cloud based digital music service "Music Unlimited." The video service Qriocity will initially be pushed to Xperia mini and Xperia mini pro in nine markets with localization of content and movies - that means if you're in Germany, you probably won't get the movie Purple Rain. Or maybe you love Prince over there too, I don't know.

Xperia X10 Gingerbread Update Date Clarified by Sony Ericsson

In a letter to the public, Sony Ericsson Head of Product PR Mattias Holm noted that there had been an update on SonyEricsson.com regarding a Gingerbread update to the Xperia X10. Unfortunately for all parties involved, Holm notes now that the information saying that Xperia X10's update was available instantly was a bit premature. Instead, Holm notes that the update will take a few more days to roll out. On another note, there's been a lot of impersonating of Sony Ericsson's Rikard Skogberg happening in the past few weeks, Holm warning the public to only trust the one true Skogberg.

Xperia PLAY now $99.99 at Verizon

Everyone's favorite legendary PlayStation phone is now less than $100 at Verizon tied to a 2-year contract. This is the device we've been using to do a small mass of reviews because of its rather unique ability to play all types of games with its PlayStation-certified controller which slides out from under its display. This device also runs a 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor with an Adreno 205 GPU for all your sweet bright lights processing. The display is a 4-inch multi-touch above which you've got a VGA front-facing camera with a 5-megapixel camera on the back.
