No Android updates for Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 beyond 2.1

Sony Ericsson has confirmed to Android Community this morning that the XPERIA X10, X10 mini and X10 mini pro will see no further Android OS updates beyond Android 2.1 Eclair. The news is likely to come as a significant disappointment to early-adopters of Sony Ericsson's Android range. However, Sony Ericsson insists that there will be future enhancements to the X10, X10 mini and X10 mini pro, for instance a multitouch update for the X10 in Q1 2011, as the company refines the experience of the handsets moving forward. Still, if you want Froyo, Gingerbread or anything else, it looks like unofficial ROMs are the only way to get them. Update: Sony Ericsson has given us the following statement:
"We believe that the current Xperia range on Android 2.1 coupled with Sony Ericsson’s proprietary upgrades and unique hardware delivers a user experience that is on par with, and in many cases better than, a vanilla installation of Android 2.2. We’re planning another upgrade to bring new features (such as for example multi-touch for Xperia X10) to the current family of Xperia™ smartphones in Q1 2011. Our priority right now is to keep enhancing the user experience of the existing products through coming updates and to deliver a fantastic range of smartphones in 2011 that are all on the latest possible version of Android - that is a target we are determined to hit."

Australian Sony Ericsson Twitter Releases Android 2.1 Update Info for Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 and Mini

Folks living in Australia holding a Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 and/or an X10 Mini Pro have some news on their update to Android 2.1, hooray! Bad news is, some of their carriers might not be as ready as they are. If you're one of these people who didn't get your phone from a carrier, you're probably in luck. If you did, you might very well have to continue waiting for a while.

Sony Ericsson ANZU replacement to XPERIA X10 leaks? [Updated]

Heaped salt at the ready, but this could well be Sony Ericsson's upcoming refresh to the XPERIA X10. Said to be the Sony Ericsson ANZU, the image was passed to XperiaX10 with scant technical details aside from a 4.3-inch display and an HDMI output. The screenshot itself indicates the ANZU is running Android 2.1, which we're hoping is a mid-development thing rather than an indicator of what version will actually ship. According to the source, the handset is "very, very slim" and Sony Ericsson is aiming for a Q1 2011 release. Update: More pictures from XperiaX10Blog added of what's being cautiously called the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X12. [gallery]

The folks over at Sony Ericsson have been making some tiny (and yet major) improvements to the functionality of some of the cooler bits of the XPERIA X10. Below you'll see a video (and read some words that I've typed up incase you're not in a place where you can watch) of Sony Ericsson rep Rikard Skogberg showing off these finer points, ready to go on an XPERIA X10 he's got in hands. Really tiny updates, really helpful things. This is how all updating should go.

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 2.1 update delayed until end of October

Sony Ericsson has confirmed that the Android 2.1 update for the XPERIA X10 - which it had previously promised would be released sometime this month - has been delayed, and is now not expected to arrive until the end of October.  The company claims to "have had to spend some additional time on the software to really makes sure we roll-out with the right quality and user experience," and will not only be upgrading the X10 but the smaller X10 mini and X10 mini pro. The news comes as a blow to XPERIA users, whose phone was released with 1.6 at a time when rival handsets were already using Android 2.0 firmware.  Meanwhile Sony Ericsson are warning that the roll-out will be phased, so it may take several weeks after the initial release before every device gets a bite of the Eclair.
