Sonar: Local social networking lands for Android

The popular local and location based social networking application Sonar is finally available for Android today in a limited beta. Sonar pulls data from publicly available profiles from Foursquare, Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook and brings it all into a single application. It sounds a little scary I know, but we are hearing great things about this new social experience.

Official Android Developers now on Google+

Android and Google just keep getting more and more social. After making an official Twitter and Google+ page late last year they are back and now have an official social page for all things Android Development. The Android dev team now has a dedicated social space for developers to meet, share, learn, and connect with one another.

President Obama to appear on Google+ for post State of the Union Interview

Who wants to see President Obama live on a Google+ hangout? If you do then next week you are in luck because Obama will be doing exactly that. After trying to be more "social" the White House made a Google+ account last week. I was confused when I saw it but now it appears that the White House will be holding a post State of the Union interview with the President live with a Google+ Hangout.

Google+ photo tagging now features automatic facial recognition

Google's social network site just keeps getting better and better these days. Now I know when you read automatic facial recognition you feel like John Connor from Terminator might hunt you down and recognize your face but this new system is completely opt-in. This feature is being called "Find My Face" and will make photo tagging even easier in Google+ land.

Google Plus adds hashtags and real-time search [Video]

Google+ is in the news today. In a rare appearance by engineering SVP Vic Gundotra himself, today's Google Plus update will introduce real-time search and full working hashtag support, much like how Twitter currently is. The new update is said to be rolling out in stages today and I've just tried it with no such luck but we can expect to see it available for everyone shortly. Real-time search is a big one here as shown in the video when you search for say, Androids, you get full results as well as a notification when something new is posted and can simply click to see the latest Android news (or come to Android Community of course).

Google+ Opens to the public, Hangouts and mobile app get huge updates

Time to start hitting that +1 button and throwing people into your circles over on Google+. Today Google just announced a HUGE update that their new social network Google+ is finally available to all and open to the public. No longer will users need an invite to join in on the fun I've been experiencing for months. Facebook should be worried right about now because I don't think I've signed in for about 2 months thanks to Google+.
