We’ve known a white Galaxy Nexus was coming for some time now, and saw countless leaks of the snow white edition but it can finally be all yours starting today. Earlier this week the white edition was officially announced and set to be available February 13th but a few online retailers have started shipping early.

If the Galaxy Nexus dressed in white appeals to you feel free to head to NegriElectronics and get your own today. They’ve officially started selling and shipping the phone for those interested — only at a premium. This is the GSM version and is fully unlocked. Add in the fact that it is rare because the color they’re asking $660 for the phone. Pretty steep but I’m sure a few are willing to pay it.

That high price will get you the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich device complete with 16GB of internals storage, they don’t have the 32GB version available in white. Negri has a broad range of shipping and will send one stateside if you are that excited about the color. Otherwise the Galaxy Nexus in white will hit the UK on the 13th as originally planned available at various locations and Samsung retail stores. I think I’ll just get out the spray paint and do it myself.

Who’s ready for some tasty Ice Cream Sandwich this afternoon? HTC has just issued a statement minutes ago, and released some official information regarding their updates to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich on popular HTC handsets. They have released small details and confirmed updates were coming but today’s announcement makes it officially coming in March for many phones.

Over on their Facebook page they have just this morning announced the HTC Sensation will be the first to Android 4.0 ICS. Stating that the first round of updates will roll out by the end of March. So we should be seeing them start to roll out a little before that period. First round will be the HTC Sensation, T-Mobile Sensation 4G, and the Sensation XE.

In addition to those few, they’ve also just confirmed a number of popular HTC devices are slated to get the same update very soon, but sometime after March. We knew most devices lately would be updated but here’s the initial list right from HTC themselves: HTC Rezound, HTC Vivid, HTC Amaze 4G, HTC EVO 3D, HTC EVO Design 4G, HTC Incredible S, HTC Desire S and HTC Desire HD. That list isn’t looking good for Thunderbolt owners!

HTC has also stated that they’ll be announcing more details and have more updates in the next few weeks regarding all their popular Android devices. This has literally just hit the wires so we’ll be digging for more information and will report back shortly.

The wildly popular and extremely fun game Temple Run for iOS is coming to Android, just like we told you last month. After a huge response from readers hoping for the game we have some bad news. Sadly after numerous rumors claimed February 9th was the official launch date we can now confirm that this hugely successful game is still coming soon, but not tomorrow.

After reaching out to Imangi Studios regarding the Android version, and checking progress over on their Facebook page we have learned that the release date was never announced and was never official on February 9th. Instead, progress is moving along quickly and they’ll be announcing a release date soon once it’s ready. According to numerous tweets we should still expect Temple Run for Android within this month, but as usual nothing is confirmed.

So there you have it folks. For everyone wondering, no it will not be released tomorrow, but hopefully before the end of the month we’ll have an update or even better — a release. This will be their first Android release and they want to get it right. I’ll be sure and follow progress for this game and will report back once we hear anything more. Be sure to stay tuned right here at Android Community for a full review once the game becomes available.

This story starts all the way back when we started hearing rumors regarding the next flagship device from Samsung, the Galaxy S III smartphone. Originally we all heard rumors expecting it to be announced at Mobile World Congress 2012 this year in Barcelona Spain. Sadly that was later found to be false and now we are hearing even more depressing news.

According to official reports to PCMag Samsung has no plans to launch anything major, and have pulled out completely in terms of hosting a stage for products, or a press conference of any sort. Last year they announced the Galaxy S II at MWC and we were hoping for something similar this year, sadly that won’t be happening. Basically this means a few things. First being either their next set of phones and tablets simply aren’t ready yet, or they’d rather have their own major event and take center stage.

So it’s pretty safe to say we won’t be seeing anything major or even remotely exciting from Samsung at the end of the month. Most likely later in March, or some other unknown date we’ll see the latest and greatest they have to offer. With an upcoming quad-core Galaxy S III and new quad-core Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich tablets surely coming soon — they better have something impressive to bail out of MWC almost completely. We’ve seen reports of a large 11.6″ tablet and a few other interesting leaks. We might see something like their 7″ budget ICS tablet in Spain, but at this point it’s anyone’s guess really.

Maybe they’ll announce their next smartphone and tablet with Google at I/O 2012. We’ll just have to wait and see.

T-Mobile is at it again and are gearing up for the holiday although this time it isn’t a Christmas sale. Instead they want you to stay close to the ones you love this Valentine’s Day and to help you do so they’re offering all 4G smartphones completely free. The catch here is the sale’s for one day only — so you better hurry.

A few days before V-Day on February 11th T-Mobile will be offering all 4G smartphones and their best selling Android tablets completely for free. Obviously there is a small catch or two here and you’ll be required to sign a new 2-year contract agreement, but that was to be expected.

Nothing says “I love you” like a 4G smartphone from T-Mobile

The quote above is their official term for the holiday season and they’ve even released a little video with some humor and a cupid for the all new 2012 Valentine’s Day sale kicking off on the 11th. There is however one more catch that is worth noting. The devices aren’t actually free out of the gate, you’ll have to pay the $199 or whatever price up front and wait for a mail in rebate. So while this deal wont save you money this week that you can use on chocolate or flowers — it will save you in the long run once that mail in rebate returns.

Who will be getting struck by cupid this year and getting their loved one a new 4G phone from T-Mobile?

Meet ANDRU. This little Android robot collectible powered by a new company called Gen can sit at your desk as you show off your love for Android with the included stand, then transform and charge your phone at the same time. Already an iconic image — the Android robot mascot now doubles as your charger. We were lucky enough to get one for a quick hands-on video and a few pictures so check it out.

There really isn’t much to say here other than this little charger is awesome. If you love Android gear this is for you. It’s a charger that will power all Android smartphones with micro-USB and it can also sit and look pretty on you desk at home, or work. Being only 2.5″ it is small and lightweight. ANDRU is made out of a soft matte covered rubber and is soft to the touch. The robot antenna’s are always a worry for many. Here they’re made from rubber that bends, and wont break like many other collectibles.

The stand easily pulls off, but clicks into place so you wont have to worry about it falling or getting lost. Andy’s eyes glow white once plugged into the outlet in standby mode, then glow blue while charging. It isn’t anything revolutionary and wont magically charge your device cable free — but it is neat, fun, and can be yours for only $25 — available today.

The future is now here. Welcome to 2012 where we can enjoy the Super Bowl live right from our Android smartphone. Yes we’ve been able to watch sports, UFC, and other things on Android thanks to Adobe Flash and other means for some time now, but Verizon will be live streaming the entire Super Bowl right to our devices.

Thanks to Verizon and their NFL Mobile app, All users will be able to watch the game in full right from their favorite Android devices — Awesome! We’ve mentioned this before but figured a reminder was due with the big game being in two days and all. All 4G LTE customers get NFL Mobile’s Premium Red Zone service that usually costs a few bucks a month for free, but for the Super Bowl everyone with the app will be able to enjoy the game.

It will be the first time that the Super Bowl will be officially streamed to mobile devices, a miracle of licensing negotiation as much as a technical achievement. The BIG game will also be streamed from many other sources and sites including NBC’s Sunday Night Football Extra web service, but that requires a subscription. I’m sure there are many other ways you’ll all be watching the big game and we’d love to hear them. For everyone that isn’t on Verizon and doesn’t have NFL Mobile — sorry about that. I wish it was for all Android devices too.

We’d love to hear your plans for the Super Bowl, and how you’ll be watching it. Sound off in the comment section below and don’t forget to get the NFL Mobile app from the Market Link below.

With Samsung’s Galaxy S III no longer expected to make a showing at MWC2012 later this month, we’ll have to settle for the new Galaxy S Advance instead. While not yet available the new Galaxy S Advance and its curved screen glass is already being spotted in the wild as a replacement to the Galaxy S Plus.

The naming scheme is starting to get a bit out of control over there in the Galaxy S factories but at least they keep churning out awesome phones like the Galaxy S II and this new Advance. The folks from TechPinas have already received some hands-on photos and video of the new Samsung device before it’s even been released.

The phone is no Galaxy S II but it’s no slouch either. Complete with a 1GHz dual-core processor, 768MB of RAM, 4″ WVGA Super AMOLED display with curved glass (just like the Galaxy Nexus), and a 5 megapixel camera with LED flash. It also comes equipped with a 1.3 front camera, 8GB of internal storage and Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

We wont be seeing the device in the US anytime soon but UK retailer Clove already has outlined pre-orders starting at £295 ($467) plus tax. If the Galaxy S Advance looks like something you’re interested in it should be shipping late February, right around the 27th so stay tuned and get your own reserved today.

In case you haven’t been following the latest Facebook news they’ve just gone public. Recently signing their Initial Public Offering, authorized by Ernst & Young LLP as having shares of its common stock available to the world. While this is big news it doesn’t really matter for us here in the world of Android. We do have some good news though — Facebook for Android just received an update although only a minor one.

The update to Facebook for Android has just hit the Android Market but judging by the screenshot above they haven’t released a change-log. According to their site and comments on the Facebook for Android page they’ve brought a load of bug fixes with the latest version — although they wont detail what exactly they’ve fixed.

Are you seeing any improvements to the latest version? We are also hearing a few memory management and efficiency issues have been resolved and should keep the application running quick and smoothly for Android users. I don’t know about you guys but ever since the latest huge UI update and overhaul the app just keeps getting worse. We’ll probably see an update tonight or tomorrow to fix whatever they’ve broke today. With all the money Facebook makes, and even more now they’ve gone public you think they could create a better app. Just saying. Hit the link below and grab the shiny new update.

Today Verizon announced that the folks at JD Power and Associates rank them right at the top in customer service and satisfaction here in the United States. While they were quick to announce the findings — they aren’t the only ones. A different survey has different results and the fine folks from Vocalabs claims AT&T actually tips the top spot instead.

One important note is while Verizon was number one overall according to JD Power, they actually ranked AT&T first in walk-in customer service over Verizon. Then you take the findings today from Vocalabs linked to above, where they surveyed phone-based customer service instead. Combine their findings of AT&T being at the top for phone based support, and JD’s comments on walk-in’s this could technically mean overall AT&T is the best.

Vocalab’s study found that AT&T has been steadily improving both as a company and in customers eyes, while others such as T-Mobile and Sprint have continued to drop. According to Vocalab’s AT&T ranked “Very Satisfied” by customers after phone based support 69% of the time. Compared to 60% for Verizon, 59% for Sprint and a lowly 48% for T-Mobile. Surveys like this can be looked at in many different ways, as not all customers have the same needs. With AT&T being top in phone support here, and top in walk-in’s by JD it is safe to say they tend to make most of their customers extremely happy. I’m wondering if you asked about actual cell service what these polls would look like.

So you tell us. How is your experiences with AT&T? Would you rank them Very Satisfied like 69% of callers did last year?

Who is ready for the Super Bowl? If you’ve been watching Sportscenter and NFL Network all week just like me and would like to show your team spirit on Android I have just the app for you. Obviously there are tons of different apps and live wallpapers available but NFL Super Bowl 3D Live Wallpaper so far is one of my favorites. It’s simple but elegant and I can sport my Packers with pride (maybe next year guys.)

While clearly anyone interested already knows it’s the Patriots vs the G-Men from New York. The app will allow you to choose any team you’d like, not just the Super Bowl teams. Although getting your favorite team logo and flag flying on your homescreen will cost you a few dollars, while the Super Bowl part is free.

It works on both phones and tablets, all screen sizes and has full support for Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Once you pay for your favorite team there is all sorts of settings and options. From team ringtones, stadium background settings and more. They’ve even updated with a holiday theme and Lucas Oil Stadium options specifically for the Super Bowl.

the developer states it has been officially licensed by the NFL ensuring the app wont get pulled randomly. They even have multiple angles for the helmet and stadium view for those that don’t like the standard options. It looks like a great app and will be an awesome way to show your team spirit this weekend.

My Packers sadly lost and even though it was to the Giants — I’ll still be rooting for the G-Men come Sunday. Who is your team and who do you want to win? I’m saying Giants over the Pats 20-17 for the final score. Sound off in the comments below!

Who needs Beats Audio? Samsung has just announced they’ve partnered with the Swedish headphone and audio company Jays and are looking to add some audio bliss to smartphones and devices coming in February 2012. You’ve probably seen their popular v-Jays and t-Jays headphones in the past and starting next month Samsung will be bundling with them and offering great deals to buyers.

Recently we’ve seen smartphone makers such as HTC take a different approach as they’ve bought part of Beats Audio and have been including their tweaked software into their devices, not to mention bundling a few special phones with some higher-range headphones. While Samsung isn’t doing anything like that they will be running multiple deals and promotions with the popular Jays brand. Here is what Jays had to say:

The agreement with Samsung is a great boost for our profile in a key target market. It’s also an incredible endorsement of Jays’ unrivaled quality and our continued success. Coming from the world’s largest manufacturer of smartphones it’s a great compliment.” comments Rune Torbjörnsen, CEO of Jays.

Jays might not be a widely known headphone brand but from audiophile sites like Head-fi.org they are a household name and are only getting bigger. The collaboration between the two will see Jays’ award-winning v-JAYS being marketed together with selected products across South Korea in many Samsung stores. You can also expect to see them in other Samsung retailers throughout Korea starting in the month of February.

We’ve seen and been waiting for the ASUS Padfone for what seems like forever. It has now been officially confirmed by ASUS themselves that it will be unveiled at Mobile World Congress 2012 — that is the end of February folks. What’s even better is we are also hearing reports from a few trusted sources that they’ll be showing off a new redesigned model.

The picture shown above, from our coverage at CES (linked to below) you can see it’s currently running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich — only the device still features capacitive touch buttons. Rumors are strongly suggesting ASUS will be showing off a redesigned model Come February 27th at MWC that will be thinner, lighter, and obviously lose those buttons thanks to the on-screen controls of ICS.

In the image gallery below you can see just how thick the model at CES was, definetaly a lot fatter than the Transformer Prime. The Padfone at CES was being shown off as compatible with the original Transformers keyboard dock, but we expect the newly designed Padfone will support the new and sleek Transformer Prime’s dock. Another hint that the new design they’ll be showing off will be extremely thin and beautiful.

Early reports have been suggesting the NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core processor but the Padfone sitting in the case at CES 2012 was confirmed to actually be rocking the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 quad-core chip. Obviously things could change internally along with the outside changes and we could see either quad-core come next month.

As a friendly reminder we will be live at Mobile World Congress to capture all the details, so remember to stay tuned right here for the latest and greatest for Android.

Samsung is looking to take things up another notch and have introduced personal engraving options for their new and popular new Galaxy Note smartphone. According to Samsung’s official Flickr page, buyers in South Korea can now get personalized custom engraving with their purchased from now until March 31st at select Samsung locations. Nice touch Samsung!

Samsung isn’t the only one offering this unique option and the folks over at Apple have had this same thing for years. Offering custom laser engravings on iPod and iPads for as long as I can remember. Is Samsung taking another play from Apple’s playbook just because they can? Or will Apple start another lawsuit for this too?

A popular option on Apple.com this type of customization hasn’t been seen in the world of Android but Samsung may be looking to change that. Whether this will be available to multiple devices and locations isn’t yet known but for now it’s only available for South Korea and the Galaxy Note. Now you can get the impressive 5.3″ AMOLED display rocking Galaxy Note smartphone with a personal touch or “note” right on the back for your loved ones. Too bad we can’t do this stateside because it would make a great gift for Valentines Day — especially with the AT&T 4G LTE Note launching February 19th.

Earlier this month we were able to get a first hand look at an impressive technology from Qualcomm called AllJoyn. What is AllJoyn you ask? A peer-to-peer proximity based gaming, streaming, and sharing technology between devices such as Android phones and tablets. This makes device-to-device communication easy and simple for games, music, and anything else you can think of. Check out all our hands-on videos from CES 2012 below.

What makes AllJoyn special for both users and developers alike is all the work is already done before we even get these games or apps on our devices. The AllJoyn platform makes it dead simple for developers to integrate this service into their apps while developing — and even slotting them into already widely available games or applications.

Then from there all the work is already done and we can enjoy peer-to-peer live action gaming, music sharing/streaming, and more all without any connecting or pairing by the end user — AllJoyn does it all for you over WiFi or Bluetooth. The video below will explain more, not to mention detail how.

AllJoyn on Namco’s Pacman Kart

Next up is a custom app designed specifically for AllJoyn called JamJoyn. This allows multiple devices the option to completely control and change music. One device is connected to the stereo but using AllJoyn multiple devices can access and control the music. Changing tracks, turning up the volume and more all with the peer-to-peer technology. I can see this causing problems with backseat DJ’s always switching the song on me, but could really be useful in my house.

The video demonstration below shows the HTC Thunderbolt (powered by Qualcomm of course) connected to a Jawbone Jambox playing music via JamJoyn. Then both the Thunderbolt, and the Nexus One beside it can both control the music. Pretty neat huh?

JamJoyn Music
/>

That isn’t all either. This same technology can be used for simple things such as drawing or Whiteboards. This could be particularly useful for educational settings both at home — or in the classroom. Being able to access and edit the same drawing board or whiteboard via AllJoyn. If I could add to the whiteboard in class without leaving my desk — that would be awesome. Take note of how this demonstration shows off how dead simple this really is, with no pairing or connecting needed by the end user. It’s seamless and all done inside the app.

Last but certainly not least we have one more demonstration (my personal favorite) called Fight Game: Heroes. This is another AllJoyn powered game that is actually running on two Qualcomm S4 developer tablets being played peer-to-peer over 4G LTE. We do have this streaming via HDMI to a larger TV for the demonstration for a better view.

Your humble narrator (me) on the right vs our good friend Chris Burns on the left battling it out boxing style. showing off peer-to-peer gaming on a few developer tablets I quickly get the jabs and kicks down and knock out my opponent in the first round. Winnah!

We’ve seen this awesome technology from Qualcomm in the past but things are starting to finally take shape and show us just how impressive and useful this all can be for the world of mobile — especially for Android and the wide array of devices running on Qualcomm Snapdragon processors. Developers you can start thinking about what or how you want to use this technology now, and we’ll be sure to follow and update as we hear more from AllJoyn and Qualcomm.

Motorola has announced a new variant of the RAZR, the RAZR XT910 Developer Edition, targeting coders with its unlockable bootloader. Currently up for pre-order in Europe, with a US version in the pipeline, the new RAZR is intended for developers looking to create and test Android apps on a recent handset.

Motorola’s regular range of consumer handsets come locked-down, a precaution by the company and its carrier partners to avoid modifications and tweaks to the core user-experience. However, Motorola says, the new Developer device “allows us to continue meeting our carrier and regulatory obligations, but also meets the needs being expressed by our developer community.”

There are some compromises involved if you’re interested in the Developer Edition, however. The new RAZR is sold without a warranty, which means if you brick the device during your play you can’t expect much in the way of help from Motorola to get it working again. There are plenty of warnings – along with other information on unlocking and modifying the phone – at Motorola’s developer site.

The European RAZR Developer Edition is up for pre-order now, priced at €499 ($657), though there’s no indication of when it will ship. The US version will go on sale “in the coming months” Motorola claims.

It always confuses me when manufacturers release half-baked devices to the public. A great combination of working hardware/software will not only helps sustain a companies good name, but also generate repeat customers. HTC followed a similar ideology years back, and is returning in 2012 with their “Hero Device” gameplan.

This strategy means less overall phone models manufactured, and more focus on high quality devices. Their first of the year are slated to show up at the start of Q2. HTC UK chief Phil Robertson specifically stated that they’ll be following this business model, so there’s no reason not to expect it. To Mobile Magazine, he said:

“We had a fantastic year, with 65% growth year on year in the UK. But in Q4 we delivered a lot more products than in the past. Now we want to create more of a ‘hero’ approach. We make great phones, but it is hard to do that when the portfolio is spread too much.” – Robertson

If hardware manufacturers only knew how much we appreciate this type of insight! Knowing that right after I purchase a device, that “the next big thing” isn’t going to show up two weeks later – and that they have tried their best to deliver the best customer experience possible. That is exactly what happened between the DROID BIONIC, Motorola DROID RAZR and even the new DROID RAZR Maxx. If you didn’t hold out until the latter, then you have every right to feel a bit agitated.

Samsung does a lot more than just mobile so their numbers will be much different than most in the Android world but we’ll go ahead and dig through them anyways. They mention an extremely strong quarter thanks to high sales of the Galaxy S II and the Galaxy Nexus just to name a few highlights. Samsung is claiming $4.7 billion in profits for Q4, almost 2 billion more than last year. A large part thanks to the over 300 million smartphones they sold.

With all the semiconductor sales and TV panels from Samsung they did mention that while sales were good, a large portion of profits were exclusively from mobile sales. Reporting around half of their sales ($21 billion) and 40% of their profit coming directly from mobile alone. Most of which is Android-powered smartphones — although they did sell a few WP7 devices too from what I’ve heard.

With numbers like these it’s no wonder Apple has been attacking them on all fronts. When someone sells 300 million smartphones you start to take notice. One important note is the fact that Samsung’s own Younghee Lee specifically mentioned that while Q1 2012 will decline in mobile, they expect another solid quarter with two upcoming Samsung devices for the US. That being the AT&T Galaxy Note, and the Galaxy Tab 7.7 LTE. We’ve heard plenty about the 7.7″ Galaxy Tab, but it appears they’ve just confirmed we’ll be seeing it this quarter.

While Tower Defense games are hugely successful and loads of fun I can’t help but feel like we have entirely too many. What we have today though is the poplar “tower offense” game called Anomaly Warzone Earth HD from 11 bit studios. This game was extremely successful over on that iOS platform and now it’s finally here where it belongs — on Android.

This game has picked up plenty of traction lately and not just on mobile. It’s currently available on Xbox live and even offered as a PC game so we are getting some intense graphics and awesome gameplay here. Obviously it wont look as it does on the PC side of things but the graphics are rather impressive for Android.

If you are a fan of “tower” type games you’ll want to check this out. It has received its fair share of awards such as Best Mobile Strategy Game from IGN and more from other mobile gaming sites. If the title doesn’t make things clear — this is the opposite of tower defense. Instead you’ll be on the offense throwing waves and waves of tanks into battle and hoping for the best. It’s all about strategy and choosing the right route, squad, and weapons.

Anomaly Warzone Earth HD offers excellent gameplay, an immersive story-like campaign and great graphics to seal the deal. If any of this interests you it’s available today from the Android Market starting at $3.99 so head down to the link after the video below and give it a try. Some are reporting the additional download wont start — give it a try and let us know in the comments below what you think.

Some new details and rumors are starting to hit the streets regarding not only the highly anticipated Galaxy Note, but of two other Android devices all headed to AT&T. We have now learned of a leaked Q1 2012 roadmap of AT&T’s smartphone devices and of them is the Galaxy Note hitting the streets February 18th for just $299 on contract.

According to some leaked information to the folks at BGR AT&T will in fact have three Android devices they are launching to start off 2012. Along with the 5.3″ Galaxy Note we are now hearing there will be a few budget and mid-range devices such as the Samsung Rugby Smart on the low end for $99, and the AT&T Fusion for a mere $129 with new contracts.

Recent press images that leaked of the AT&T 4G LTE powered Galaxy Note hinted at a February 14th launch date based on the on-screen widgets but these new leaks suggest the wait will only be a few more days. Being able to get the powerful and almost tablet sized Note with 4G LTE for only $299 sounds like a pretty good deal to me. If you’ve been waiting for this phone then relax, the wait is almost over.

As soon as we hear anything that confirms the details we’ll be sure to update, not to mention digging for more details on the Rugby Smart and Fusion.
