Samsung S-Voice back and working on all devices

When the awesome developer community managed to share Samsung's new Siri rival called S-Voice with the world it was short lived. Samsung quickly killed the possibility for most and restricted devices access to the servers required to use the voice-guided service. Today however we are hearing things are back up and running again, for all smartphones.

S-Voice gets gagged: Samsung blocks leaked APKs

So, have you been trying out S-Voice, the brand-spanking new (and totally original, we swear) voice app snatched from the Galaxy S III? If you haven't yet, then you needn't bother: Samsung has begun blocking server access for all phones that aren't the Galaxy S III - and since the phone doesn't officially release for another week, that's all of them. So far Samsung has made it clear that the feature is an exclusive to their new flagship.

Google “Assistant” coming late 2012, will best Apple’s Siri

Google has had what we all know as "Voice Actions" long before Apple's Siri came along, it just wasn't shown off on the same big stages and bright lights of commercials. Since then, Google's been working on what rumors and reports have called Project Majel -- a Siri-like voice assistant similar to the current voice actions only better. New details are starting to leak that might have also confirmed the name.

HTC Endeavor RUU leaks with hints of HTC Speak, a Siri rival

Over the weekend a leak for the upcoming HTC Endeavor (HTC Edge) was made available for download and along with it were tons of goodies and surprises. The RUU contained tons of images of HTC Sense UI 4.0 but what is even more interesting is the HTC Speak app that was also included. Possibly hinting that HTC is bringing a speaking and voice-like application to their devices that will rival Apple's Siri.

The latest Siri clone, Evi, is actually worth checking out

There's a new contextual AI voice app out there to take on the likes of Apple's Siri. No, wait! Don't touch that tab bar! There have been a lot of these lately, especially on Android, but Evi is actually worth your time. The new app uses some of the same algorithms and data sources as Apple's hyperbolic app, giving some impressive results using Android's native voice search and text-to-speech engines. You can download the beta app in the Android Market now.

Steve Wozniak really likes Android, still uses iPhone

In the geeky culture surrounding computers and technology, Steve Wozniak is as close to a god as they come. And not the angry, wrathful kind that shoots litigation lightning bolts from high atop Mount Cupertino - a more gentle, understanding god, whose new testament of finding joy in tech agnosticism rings true for nerds everywhere. The point is that when Wozniak makes sweeping statements about the state of the mobile industry, as he did to The Daily Beast, the tech world sits up and takes notice, if only for the comfortable knowledge that Woz's opinions are usually free of any real bias or allegiance.

Ever since the iPhone 4S was announced and Siri shown off we've been seeing all sorts of movement in the world of Android regarding voice recognition and other similar software or applications. While Android has had its own Google Voice Actions for a long time Iris has emerged as a great Siri alternative. Recent reports are now suggesting Iris is about to get a whole lot better soon.

Siri for Android hits the market, jokes on Apple

When this dropped into our inbox I was instantly excited to share it and couldn't help it but laugh a little. This is the "official" Siri App for Android -- sort of. For those that somehow don't know, Android actually has an awesome set of features called Google Voice Actions. You can see all the details on those right here. Things as simple as, "Set Alarm -- 8:30 AM" and it will automatically set your alarm. All you need to do is press that search magnify glass or hit the widget on the homescreen.
